Any tricks to welding up the 80s ford bumpers? Running it hardnosed for a stock show on a 98-02 vic. Do you flip them or just run them stock?

anytime you can load a bumper you should especially if its not a great bumper....and save the good bumpers for non-loaded events.

Yes and no, I wouldn'toad a bumper for a no protector class and lets say your running a vic. That loaded bumper will send the nose into the air in a hurry. With the right rules yes I'd load a cheap o bumper before I'd run a stock seamed welded point or 74 impala etc.

Depends on the car, rules, and bumper. Also, just because you can load a bumper doesn't mean you have to stuff it full. Sometimes a simple 3/8" piece welded along the backing will help some bumpers tremendously and that's all they need.

Running a 76 T-bird. The front bumper mounts are square tube with rubber. Then an I been is bolted to the bumper and slides in the rubber in the mount. Has anyone slid or compressed the bumper and I beam further into the mount? I would like to try it but short of heating up the rubber to soften it I have no idea how to do it. Thank you.

I like to throw them in a burn barrel or a bonfire and let the rubber burn out of them and then it's easy to pound them together and weld them up. It will take a lot of time to get it to heat up and move with a torch, unless maybe you cut the bracket apart and then get the rubber to detach from the steel.

And I bet that barrel smokes like no other with that rubber in there. I took the torch to it for a few minutes and it still wasn't hot enough. Smoked pretty good.
