What is the best 80's bumpers to run? Building a couple of 89 Vics for a stock class and we can only run 80's style bumpers... Any info?

Probably picking up a 1975 Gran Torino within the next couple weeks. I know that the Torino Elite bumpers are extremely sought after, but how does a Gran Torino bumper compare to the strength of an Elite? Is there much difference between the two, or are they basically the same?

got a 93 vic, first time running a newer car/ ford. looking for any tips possible. i know mostly everything that will need to be done, my main questions are what to do on the ass end from the humps back, what to use as a back bumper, A arms, and my main concern is the front bumper. i got a good idea of what to use as a bumper, but ive heard the angle/ flipping the bumper upside down makes a big difference on how the frame reacts? any truth in this? if so what is your opinion and tips for the whole bumper situation . it will be ran in a couple derbies that are both minimal weld, let you weld bumpers and a little here or there.

Are you allowed to hardnose? Hardnose refers to welding the front bumper directly to the frame.

They are pretty good. The back bumpers are all pretty much the same. I like using the rear bumpers on the ass of anything. They roll up and flatten out, but don't usually invert. It helps keep the rails tied together without being too hard or bending weird. The front bumpers are not quite an elite bumper though. Easy to load though.

Trying to get an idea on ford 79^ bumpers as to which year they started going to aluminum.
Im thinking it was 85, but I dont know if that is across the board for vic/merc/linc at the same time.
Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks, Mike

yeah, thats what I meant to say as far as the box cars... I know it started with the panther platform for the box cars in 79, just not sure what year of the box cars that it ended. Thanks.

It's really a hit/miss thing. Just be sure to check on the insides of the bumper sections, with a magnet. The chrome on some of the aluminum ones will stick a magnet.

What year did the torsion elites have the good bumpers. I have read 74 but the scrap yard has a 77? Just wondering if they are the same.

Is this the strong aluminum Ltd bumper everyone was talking about? The front has no holes in it. URL=http://s1381.photobucket.com/user/justinmein222/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20141229_184900_zpsbdfab873.jpg.html] [/URL]
