Sorry if the thread is already on here. i couldnt find it. I just picked up one of these tonight. Anyone got Tips and Tricks for it.

From what I've read about them is tuck and notch the rear, change bumpers and get the front sitting high

Add body mounts. Add a set between the base of the humps and the back bumper. Add a set or two in the middle of the car, where the "B" pillar would be if these were four doors.

Awesome thanks, the stock bumpers pretty decent if they get welded up? Also, second guessing my ability to figure out what to do to the front as far as hard nosing goes. I realize you bring it back 8 inches or so. But what combo of bumper mounts do you leave there. Looks a little tricky. Maybe when the clip comes off ill figure it out but any tips on that would be great

I would weld them to the side of the frame if they're the ibeam shocks

1......these noses are tough if built right and you have the right idea....... but the stock front bumpers arent hard enough for these IMO heres a few ways of mounting the front bumpers on these cars.....hardnosing and sliding GM bumper shocks are the best choices IMO 1......Chevy bumper shocks 2...... BOP bumper brackets ( helps out w/ bumper height but puts more stress at the firewall ) 3........ Stock Ford I beam brackets reworked sitting on top of the frame

Ya know how the I beams sit on the outside? Try moving them to the inside part of the frame and then welding them. Just mock it up on the frame and you'll see what I mean.

;D who would do that.. its alittle more work cause you have to work the core support.. plus I got alittle more than that done too
there great cars man.. I hope come this week-end I'll have some pictures to show you boys.. mine has some bends here and there..but I'm done planning it for now..
frames seam welded on top, cut 3" off the frame and hard nosed, plated on one side and kicker on the other at the firewall.. thats the big place, once you get the front body mount forward fixed.. gas tank protector, trunks welded up, 5 flat leafs (rules say 7 or 5 with hump plate) and rear bumper hard tailed
lets just say when she goes its not going to be pretty.. but I've had alot of bad luck.. and unless I get another good run out of her.. she may get junked after this time

THIS sounds like a car i want to see now. im not building a buttercup car. and LTmudtire thanks a lot, thats all i need is an idea to go with, because just looking at it under the car has me lost on what to do. I will move the I beams to the inside.
I do not agree with that chevy shock post up there^^^^. that bumper is way to far out from the core support in my eyes. maybe im wrong but i always cut back all the way to core support and hardnose the bumper RIGHT THERE to the frame on other cars. my theory still correct on these birds?

Finally someone who is messing with a 70's Ford for the first time sees the light. Me and Derbyboy have had several long discussions about these cars. Not only about building them but comparing all the 70's Fords to each other to see which one is better for certain rule sets, or just better period. Usually, everywhere you go, there are plenty of these cars around. Just go for the cleanest ones you can find, and weld all frame seams top and bottom, hardnose/hardtail the front and back bumpers, set it to roll and pack if you can't leaf, do the body mounts good, and you have an Impala eater.

that was before anything was welded if you remember my 1st post .....and that solves a few issuses up front from kicking sideways and IMO theres really no need to move the brackets to the inside unless its to help kicking from side to side...... they dont bend there unless you have it loaded at the firewall or have kickers/ protectors....and then they still will usually only bend behind the 1st crossmember behind the core support but I do agree they are definitely better than a regular 74-76 gm...... i would argue that the ass is just as good if not better than a t/p buick
