i just picked up an imp sub and it looks similar to the ^ above picture EXCEPT, the torsion bars go thry the rear crossmember and there is a looks to be "homemade" kind of bracketry for the torsion bars, First imp sub i have ever had, putting it under a 70 y framer car, the guy who had it b4 me cut and moved the mounts at firewall for these cars already and added shocker rear mounts behind the rear crossmember to line up with that "hidden" mount on the car body (it would be the furthest rear mount like on a shocker).. anyways, these torsion bars are nice n black and the frame is defineatly aged with the rust color, any ideas why it is like this?? im clueless! and also, the steering box fille with water and cracked n broke the casing and all the tie rods and stuff i want to replace, so i need help with the torsion bar issues and what steering box and all steeing components may i swap with on this? i have both y framer and shocker parts all laying around and seem to be very similar! thansk guys! Brad

maybe the guy shortened the sub to bolt into all the stock mount locations of a Y frame body by using y frame torsion bars...? If you have a y frame sub or body try putting a tape measure on it to compare

Runnin an all imp show in May and its a very stock build. I'm wondering how should I go about preventing the sub from pushing straight back and buckling the floors with only 5/8 body bolts and NO down bars to the frame? Any thoughts??

my opinion 69's are the best. full framers are tough in the rear, but have y brackets that bend in the front, they also will not belly out like a sub will after about 10-15 derbies. 67's and 68's will fold right to the ground in the rear if they take a good shot, but they are also superior up front with the same sub as a 69-73 but the 69-73 have strong rear ends and superior noses.

will a imp sub bolt up in 69 y framer fuselage car or will you stil have to do fabrication to make it fit

This topic is mentioned a fair bit already but, yes there is a fair bit of fabrication that goes into it. I wouldn't recommend doing it on your own the 1st time, have someone that has already done it once or twice give ya a hand. you can get yourself in a mess real fast...

will a imp sub bolt up in 69 y framer fuselage car or will you stil have to do fabrication to make it fit you're in the right thread; now start at page one and you'll find this is discussed already several times (starting with post #7 on the first page and appearing several more times after that). Also check the 65-73 Y frame thread and you'll find more useful info. Read both threads & take notes and you'll learn a lot more that you expected.

I know it got mentioned before but heard no results about it yet , unless I missed it . Anyone have good results tipping these cars ? Middle of a build and wondering if I should space out the firewall and rad support from frame to level out the frame ? Or to suck it toght to the frame ? Have a pointy on it and limited weld rules . No down bars to body or frame . Thanks for any opinions .

Spacing mine at the firewall a couple inches and at the core support in an all imp fairly stock build.... hope all goes well. We can add 4 extra body bolts. 5/8 bolts any location tips? Thanks
