none of the stated cars are Y framers, not sure about valient but am thinking that midsize... anyway, worth more to collectors than to derby since a coronet is basicly a charger... sell the parts and buy some real good cars with that cash

ok, so say you have the y's plated and bolted side to side, how do you keep the frame from bending right in front of the a-arm where the frame meets the cross member? for some reason I had both frame rails on a shocker bend hard to the drivers side causing the frame rail to hit my fuel pump...don't want that to happen again I would rather see it go up or in.

Unfortunatley that is where all of these cars bend. I'm sure there is a trick out there to remdy that but I haven't found it or heard it yet. There are little things to slow it down but not sure about stopping it. everything has to bend somewhere.

I plan on running my first mopar next year, it's a 1968 Chrysler Newport. For the rules I have, you cannot plate the Y or run bolts through it like I've seen what many do on here. I was just wondering If there is any other way to solid up the front? Any help would be great thank you.

run a soft bumper on it to take some of the impact

can you shove a shock into the Y? if not id just get a medium toughness bumper and hardnose it then get creative with the old bumper mounts

options are
1- plate the Y 2- weld shock mounts inside the Y 3- bolt shock mounts outside the Y 4- bolt better bumper direct to frame rails 5- stock 6- ?
IMO 1 or 2 are the best, if you can't do that then 4 is a good option (choose a softer bumper such as 80's Vic all steel with a nice flat surface for mounting). Not a fan of #3 because the frame thickness is so wimpy it's difficult to do this is a way that won't rip out, and also when it crumbles back they tend to splay out and get into your tires. With # 5 you'd better drive old school and protect the nose.

honestly, these cars are still really tough if left stock, i just ran a 66 fury II, and used the front almost the entire time, and took some pretty good hits, and finished 5th in the feature and the frame just started to give

I guess it's all relative. I can (and have) completely killed the front end on a stock Y frame car on the first hit. To me they are a fraction of degree of hardness compared to any shock bumper Chrysler. But hey, if it's working for you then send it.

307, yes I can shove a shock into the Y, but should I bolt a better bumper directly to the frame rails? Out of the two which is the best option? Thanks for all of the info guys this is my first Mopar I'm pretty pumped.

never tried a Y framer yet but i really want to, helping build one now tho and have watched many run, whats nice is with that Y u can really think outside the box, shove a shock inside that Y as far as you can and then weld a decent bumper on the front, id find a 80s ford steel bumper personally, then take the old long Y frame bracket and weld it onto the side of the Y for some support from it going and giving to fast.... this is what i would personally do, to me Y framers just open up a whole can of worms that most ppl run away from
