Knuckle at the box then a solid shaft up thru the firewall and 1 heim to your dash bar... worked awesome for me and my car was nosed pretty badly Better add in a spot for it to teloscope. I had a buddy use a solid shaft that started at an arms lenght away and he ended up cracking a couple of ribs when the steering wheel came back. Front end was sky high

What are u guys doing for steering on a 77yorker I remove the flange that is bolted to the firewall, remove the bolts at the dash, chain it to the dash instead, and splice in a U joint at the box. Has worked great for me over the years.

Any body have any idea what happened here? What caused this or anything? I bellied the car out really hard but the pitman arm, center link or anything around the steering box do not show any indicators of being damaged but you can clearly see the tie rod and pitman arm are well above the tortion bar causing the car to not steer. Also I noticed the steering box is broken all the way around where the steering shaft goes into the box so when I turn the wheel the shaft has a ton of play in it. Any idea what steering boxes will interchange? Will pinch frame and shocker steering boxes interchange with each other? Thanks for any help or input.

im ditching the stock steering colum on a 86 fifth ave and i was wondering the best way to do it was. theres the steering box shaft then something else right after the box (not sure what its called) then the rubber disc bolt clamp. im needing to know which shaft to weld my knuckle to and how to attach it in the cab. thanks nate

if you look on the first page of this topic, I posted some pics of the brake booster elimination that I do. In the last pic you can see a modified steering column that I use. You definitely want to either get rid of the rag joint or move it away from the firewall, I don't have a problem with them breaking but I do have a problem with them binding up on the firewall.

I even use an aftermarket column and had it happen last weekend, don't know why, but having a column flopping around in a car while getting half tracked by a suicide isn't fun... slid it back on and tightened it and ran the consi and it stayed on fine
