I've seen many braced 8 3/4 rear ends. I don't because our rules don't allow it.

What are the axle shafts and bearings or bushings to buy? Who is the best distributor to buy from? Thanks for any help.

There are not a lot of aftermarket parts for these, unless you have an A/B/ E body rear end. The C-body rear ends do not have aftermarket axles available, unless they are custom made. Moser can make custom axles. In general, tapered wheel bearings are the kind of bearing you would prefer to have, as they generally are able to take more side impacts and survive. I don't believe that they make bronze bushings for this rear end. I just run stock axles, with a braced housing, and Richmond gears in a welded carrier.

I mostly agree with that ^^^^^^^^^^^ especially the part about the tapered bearings. The "green" bearings or any other parallel roller bearing design belong on a drag strip and nowhere else

you can buy aftermarket axles that have a long splined section that you cut to fit your housing but they are 35 spline so you gotta run a 35 spline spool. RAPTOR FAB CAN HOOK YOU UP WITH BUSHINGS AND EVERYTHING ELSE YOU NEED but, like anything else its pricey

was just on ebay looking around and found that Doctordiff is selling a complete axle/solid bearing/spool setup for 8-3/4 for under $600. Don't know how tough it is, he claims it is for derby use only, don't know anything about it but just throwing it out there for the guys who seem to have trouble breaking the stock stuff

speaking of stock axles, im having mixed emotions. the first set I ran I broke an axle without even getting hit (broke right at the spline) so for the next show I swapped in another set (after having to take the pinion brake setup off and remove the third member and take it all apart to retreive the broken chunk ) I swapped in another set of stock axles. the next show the car took a axle shot so hard into the dirt that it completely bent the ss wheel in half and pulled all the studs through the wheel (1 inch lugs) but the axle is perfectly straight. put a new wheel on and away we go. after the second set of axles I now beleive I had a stressed axle the first time.

I run a POSTALMOPAR pinion brake on my 8-3/4 and 9 inch ford. Great products.

when you guys weld your back brace on do you leave the rear assembled or do you weld it bare housing? and should i weld in 2 inch intervals so i dont get it to hot? im just worried about warping, thanks

I left mine assembled, and haven't had any issues in the last 4 derbies it ran. I would and did weld small amounts at a time to keep the heat on the housing down. 2 inches is about what I did.

no i never got hit in the wheels the axles seem like they wanted to go in more since the center pin was gone and they starting chewing up the round piece with the threads on that hold the bearing in
