Cowdoc, Are you talking about welding the stock mounts to the header flanges? do you have any pics you could share? yes, heavy strap to flanges. I've ran angle along the side of the block to the bellhousing area and around tohe front too. Crude, just start welding metal to connect to any handy bolt. I will try to get some pics but the ones I've done it to are in cars. once again, photobucket sucks, have some pics there lol

Maybe Ive just had a run of bad luck, but i keep burning up mini starters on big block motors. its as if they melt down when cranking a hot motor. I've burned up 2 in the last month one was from a wrecker, the last one was brand spanking new. is there a certain brand that works better than others? are genuine chrysler starters better? is anyone else having the same problem? Im really lost here because i love the high speed cranking with the mini, but hate the thermal melt down when they get hot. is this just my bad luck? I only run the ones I get from junkyards off the 90's trucks. Now, the funny thing is for me they seem to die in storage, not in the middle of being used. Don't know what the story is there. same here, our mini starters would screw up every winter sitting in cars or on motors in the shop. always had to clean them up. All the aftermarket ones i mean, factory ones were always good. The factory ones dont fit in some big blocks without some clearancing.

Question: Is 280 too much cam for demo? Ive got a really sweet deal on a camshaft is this too much cam do you think, Might i have trouble starting? not that i plan on stalling out... Ive got a stock build with heavy valve springs, edelbrock carb, rebuilt 727, and 456 gears. Dirt ring... too much? I kinda think so but at the same time ive seen 268 cams preform quite well.... any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Ran a few 284 duration cams with no problem, ran a 292 duration in a bigblock and it was way to much in the past.

So I hear a lot about the 400 big blocks being a good derby motor but what about the 413s? Are they as good as a 400 for our purposes? I have a 283 chevy, 400 big block, and a 413 big block to choose from. Not sure what my best route is. I run against guys with racing engines but I am looking for decent power and reliability.

I plan on starting to build this 400, what would be a good cam for a snappy low end that will run hot.

I'm planning on using a 400 because they supposedly can handle the heat just as good as a small block but have twice the torque. I have seen a couple of guys run them with great success, one of which ran it in a shocker at metal mayhem stock class. I have always wanted to try one every since. Low compression so should handle the heat well.
