Anyone ever make a distributor protector for these? DP's aren't allowed in my class, but if a guy could finagle something out of an old alternator bracket. . .something has to be done with the dizzy up front. I can't be the only one that's snapped a cap off.

AC compressor protects the distributor really well Although it may look like the air cleaner is eating an A/C sandwich.... the distributor is fine, this engine was running on all 8 cylinders.

It looks like the ac compressor is protecting more from the hood hitting the dizzy? I had my core support shoved back into it. Last time I run without plating my Y's. . .

Ok mopar guys. I have a '69 imperial that I'm fixing up to put back on the road as a driver. The car has sat for the last 20 years and has a lifter tick. I figured I would put a new camshaft and lifters in it. I don't plan on doing anything to the bottom end. What is a good cam duration wise for basically a stock '69 440? I figured I would probably put new valve springs in to match the cam. I know the comp 268 cam is a popular choice for derby application with a broad power band. What's your thoughts?
Thanks,
Nate

I should have said as well that I really don't want to take the heads off even. The car only has 41,000 miles on it. I would prefer to be able to use factory length push rods and don't want to use a stall converter.

A trick we used on Harley's to keep us from pulling the tank and heads to just change cams was to cut the push rods and then used adjustable push rods to put it back together.
Now, do they make adjustable Mopar push rods? No idea, lol

No need to pull heads on any bbm to change cams. just valve covers and intake manifold. You actually might be able leave the intake on and fish the lifters up and out through the heads with a long magnet, im my opinion it wouldn't be worth the hastle or risk. just pull the intake manifold off and everything is right there in front of you.

Thanks for that insight. Appreciate it.
So, does anyone have any ideas as far as what cam to put n it based on my requirements above?

If you aren't wanting to pull heads in order to play with valves, valve seats, or porting or upgrading valve springs a comp 268 or mopar 268 purple shaft is probably your safest bet. pretty much anything else (IMO) is going to need at minimum, a visual inspection of the valves but probably more.

Okay guys quick question. Hope someone will know... I have a 1966 imperial 440 running in a '71 Newport. Looking to work top end. I know mopars don't need much. But I gotta replace both head gaskets and replace timing chain.. I'm wanting to put a different cam into the car. It's completely stock as of now, besides the carb I have put on it. My problem is I don't know what a good cam choice would be. Or the compression ratio for the motor. After I put new head gaskets on. How do I go about finding compression ratio for the stock motor? Or does any know what a stock would be?. Also setting valves, what thousandths do I set them at? And any tricks with valve adjusting?. Any help would be appreciated.! Thanks Nelson n22

Well. I got the motor torn down for new head gaskets.. Cam looks to be in good shape. Along with lifters and pushrods. So I will be re using them. But I did upgrade the timing chain. But I still would like some info on a 66 imperial stock 440 compression ratio if anyone knows. And also the valve setting for them. What thousandth. Thanks.
