interesting idea, so you're just modifying the oil pump cover so that it re-routes the fluid and eliminates the filter circuit. I like it.

dm440c is my hero in a derby world of mopar haters .. thanks for all the info.Wish you were my neighbor ! Make sure it is mounted and chained and welded in place good. Keep snapping ears off of 400 blocks. Last 400 was smooth running powerful and cool in my imp until i bent the mounts in my sub and smashed the oil filter and ran all night with no oil. yeah, the lower tab on the driver's side pretty much breaks on the first run everytime. Usually I can keep running the engine after that without further mishaps, so I have not done an awful lot of experimenting with radical solutions. I have dabbled with chain and kicker strategies that seem to work good but maybe one day I'll take the step to have a bolt-in cradle deal, I can see how it might save some time overall during the build.

i find it very interesting and worth consideration! my other idea was a dry sump idea with a huge oil reservoir, maybe 20 gal or so. would help reduce engine temps too

Just picked up a 75 Charger to derby that was used to bracket race, has what looks to be either an overhauled 383 or 400, or at the least new gaskets all the way around, and an orange repaint. Anywho as I was inspecting why they quit driving/racing it, I noticed a push rod, had pushed through a rocker arm. What would cause this, and what other damage should I look for with this scenario. This is the first time I have seen this, also the push rod that pushed through is not bent.

My first guess would be valve float. If they where racing it. That means it saw full rev alot

My first guess would be valve float. If they where racing it. That means it saw full rev alot bingo, that's my guess too the stock valvetrain is fine for demo derby and street/strip up to a point but in a true racing application you'll start to bump up against design margins and something's gotta give

A truck pan is a truck pan. I've never seen two that are different. Some will have an oil dipstick on the side of the pan, but those are usually industrial block pan, are exactly the same.

I've seen quite a few big block truck pans with the dipstick in the side and a plug in the hole in the block, in fact I'm scratching my head to recall seeing it any other way. As far as I know all the big block truck pans are the same.... but that doesn't make it true, so try looking around at the different vendors to see if they sell more than one.

So i have a Question...... I got this big motor home that is from the 70s or so. Its long, 25+ for sure. I have been told this thing has a bb mopar in it. I seen it, its big. I seen where to look for block numbers above in past posts, but what about the tranny? I wont be able to take a look at it for a couple weeks, due to college. It seems to be geared way down because it has no balls,(Most likely due for a tune up also) ive tried doing brake locks I cut the sleeping quarters off and made a fish house. Vin number on the motor home might be an issue, not even sure what it was. Is this motor worth anything? is the tranny worth anything? Can i bolt this thing up to a chevy rear end for a extra motor for a truck/car? I dont have casting numbers yet. I was told it probably has a RV cam, is that good if it does? I got the whole thing for free. I know its pointless to ask these questions with out numbers, but where do i look on the tranny? I dont wanna scrape grease off of the whole damn thing laying down in the winter elements.
