Also, I mis-spoke earlier. The frame did not bend at the firewall. It was just an optical illusion from the body mount pulling out. I did get knocked up onto my side by a Monte during the feature as well. Went into the feature with no fan (electric fan broke in heat), no belts (lost it in heat, and forgot to pack a spare), and no ability to turn left. Still made it to about 6th/7th place.
Definitely a one run car for a small time show. Don't expect more than that out of one.

Feel free. That album should stay active for a really long time. Bear in mind, some pre 71's have a box frame up front. This one has the c-channel.
The last attempted run was discouraging, so it got tossed aside for a couple years.
Tell your friend to tuck and double notch the rear, and to keep it in reverse as much as possible. The left side of mine did not drop. It just looks that way because of the flat tire. And the humps did not budge. I put my rear notches right in the natural curve of the frame, and my front notches right behind where the box frame turns into c-channel. The rear held up alot better than the front. The factory 12 bolt c-clip axles held up too.
If allowed, bolt or weld those a-arms down to get some front height. I went right through the frame with 2 half inch bolts with standard washes on each upper a-arm. My bumper was 21" to the bottom, with 22" rules.

^^^^^Washers, not washes. Used standard sized 1/2" washers. And remember, this was a small time derby. Winning a 5 car heat to move on to a 9 car feature.
I will also do up a 68 Pontiac with boxed front frame as a similar experiment, and post the results with pictures here. Maybe next year.

The 68 Pontiac Executive will likely get run in late July, 2013, by my son. I let him choose between that and a 77 LTD. Looks like I get the Ford. There is much more frame up front than there was on the 70 Impala. It is at least boxed, except at the very end, where the bumper mounts. It turns to c-channel right there, and curves up 90 degrees. Can get rid of most of that. Looks like we will have to bolt down a-arms to get some front height on this one, too.
Looks like it has the same wimpy back rails as the Impala, but they are at least a foot shorter...less leverage. Will still tuck and double notch.
Looks as if some have had decent luck with the boxed frame pre 71's, so any extra tips would be grand. It is a 4 door post sedan.

Put tons of attention into the humps. My 65 Buick was tucked and notched and the humps folded in on themselves after about 4 solid hits, putting the rear bumper convienently right against my rearend, and at that height to. The front lasted forever (I even used the stock front bumper and mounts on it back then) It was the 90's and I was a teenager, so sue me. It was super strong in the middle (back then no cage either).

Cool. Neglected to mention, the rules are pretty stock. Same rules I built that Impala to. Won't be able to do anything with the humps. Can notch frame, and shape rear panels as I see fit, and use 4 sticks of all thread in the trunk, but that's about it.
