There are slight frame differences but none that make a difference. The biggest difference is in the front clip.

Only difference I find is just behind the "crush box" but like stated not a real difference

79 should have a 425 Caddy motor... Never ran one, can't help much there, sorry.

Don't over rev a 425. That was the end of mine. Stock it loved alcohol though.

I wouldn't hesitate to run a 425 for a real stock type show but the motor mounts are a weakness. Not as bad as older Caddys but still a weak spot. It's a better choice to run it if you are running the original rearends in a 77-79 Caddys. They have horrid gear ratios.

A little word to the wise on the 79 coupe devilles with the 425 in them. I was told on here and by others that the HEI system is a standard HEI distributer that all I needed was one wire to the coil and done. I askedwhat about this little black box thats wired to the bottom of the ditributer. You dont need that I was told. Well come to find out it really did need it. it just so happens that is a brain. It ran great as long as it was wired into the system. But after the little doodad that reduces the voltage to the brain was gone, well you got it sizzle goes the brain. Now no fire to the plugs. So I tried to bypass it and wire the plug from the bottom of the distributer direct to the battery. well that didnt work either. So after hours of frustration and aggravation I pulled the whole distributer out and went to my buddies house and we dug up a standard GM HEI distributer and compared the 2 well the module inside looked the same but had several extra wires coming off of it and some other really smart looking stuff in there. So we took them both apart and rebuilt the inside with stuff from the standard HEI and wala runs like a champ again. So long story short Their not the same. You will need that little box if you plan on running the stock setup. now 1 wire and done.

i have a buddy that went threw the same exact trial and error and ended up having the same end results....one wire and done... sounds like not even playing with that module is a good idea, just one more thing to go bad.

That's right. You'll need to gut out the factory module and replace it with the 2 wire type from a standard HEI distributer.

This is the first I have heard of this^^^^ good info to point out! My 425 was a 78 and has the standard hei 1 wire and done. I kept the distributor base(gutted to build a sbc dist.)/new fuel pump(only a test drive, heat and consi on it)/th400 pattern flywheel from mine after it seized up if anyone running these would be interested in them.

Have a 77 deville that I have a shot at buying, plan to run it in a mild chain and go class, stock drive line (no sliders) vics get no special treatment and I love to wreck the metric impalas and caprices but I feel like when it comes to bone stock this car would have a running chance over vics? Opinions?

would a mid 70s cougar bumper be good to run on one of these cars? The price is right (free). Any feedback would be appreciated.
