dont use torches... it makes for a jagged edge then your welds are tougher to hide... sawsall Okay, we'll see how it goes. Probably won't be done for a while yet.

anyone got pics of where they pitched theirs at? ive been staring at one of mine..... idea is to make the frame as straight as possible..... a crossmember pitch would just add another bend. im looking hard at the factory sdeam right in front of the a arms, that is where it seems to take off upwards the most, right in front of the crush boxes is slight too..... any more insight on this? ......anyone?

imo i would junk that one unless the cadi stub is super cheap. then the matter of where to cut/butt weld will be a matter of how much it tweaked at the firewall

Rencently start working on a clean rust-free 1985 Cadillac Fleetwood. I have already started leafing it and replaced the engine and trans with a 305/th350 combo I had laying around.
I have replace front shocks with some al-treaded rods and reinforced and welded a arms with some spacers in front of my caddy. The whole thing look solid and the front is raised just good.
Considering the front suspension is now solid, is it a good idea to replace the upper ball joint with some high-grade bolts? I have broken a lot of ball joints on my old Chryslers.
Now I want to hardnose the front. What kind of bumper should I pick? Any suggestion?
Thanks

There are many different bumpers that will work. Can you seam weld or stuff the bumper?

No, we cant add any material on the bumper. The rules only says the it has to be a production model, which basically means that I cant add stuff on a bumper but I can use a big heavy duty truck bumper if I wish!

ok I ran my first metric caddy earlier this summer in a pretty short one heat go derby. it bent upfront and i was pretty disappointed, but it had cement walls and i got thrown into them pretty hard. I continued to say in a couple different threads on here how i didn't think these cars were any good. And i would like to say I judged this car to quickly. to get this car ready for the next show i didn't try and straighten the frame, i just plated it were it sat. I figured it was going to nose up in a couple hits anyway so what was the point. I got the rear off the ground and plated it best i could, and that's how i ran it..... and i ran it hard trying to junk it quick, and holy crap was i surprised. The front end was actually a tank, the radiator support and hood moved more than the frame actually did. and to my surprise it's gunna run again. here is a link to my heat. and im sorry for cursing these cars so quickly, i WILL run one again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3VWo_SENckwhy did they break your stick?

Don't use a truck bumper. Look for a 76 impala,Monte, or olds and hardnose it

I broke my quick release steering wheel about 40 seconds into the heat, and it took them that long to notice i was steering with just the shaft. he dq'd me for safety reasons.

These will hold a decently stout bumper if the frame is built right. Mine hold fine to loaded box ford bumpers. Imo a stock 80'ssteel ford bumper is too weak. I smashed one flat in one run. Lesson learned. Cut the skin, plated the backing inside and some 3/4" plate gussets and welded on a new skin. Holding up good so far.

i was running a loaded pointy, if your rules allow u to use long bumper shocks, you'll be fine with a loaded bumper.
