the last one i built this year i left the firewall brace in and the tranny butted up to it and broke the bellhousing.. after that i cut it out about 2 inches above the brace and the firewall dug into it without touching the tranny and worked out well.. maybe try pushing the floor up enough where your tranny wont hit the firewall.. and let the DP just hit.

If you run a 472 or 500 do you have to worry about this? Or only with a 350?

If you run a 472 or 500 do you have to worry about this? Or only with a 350? If you pull the mounts the trans will hit but i have a500 in mine still. Started and ran great even when hot. Not great on hp, but hella torque the 4:10s in my 14 bolt woke it up. But its not bad even with factory rear.

Wow. I don't feel so bad about breaking a bellhousing. Two hard nose shots into the tail of a clamshell and I had bellhousing flying. No visible frame bends but with the dp tight against the firewall and a solid trans mount is not a good combo. I cut the tunnel out and built a floating trans mount and ran it 2 more times for a 2nd and a 3rd without issue. Dp bottomed on the firewall and started bending out front. Btw it was mopar powered with full hoffmeister engine protector.

if you notch the back frame should you plate the humps?

If you have the chance to plate the humps, DO IT! I would still notch and dimple it to have it fold right for window clearance, but the back should be hard(your humps shouldnt collapse) and it'll turn into a ram....until it bellys. but thats what gas tank protectors are for ;D ;D
