98 percent of the time you'r not going to have a problem, unless you go kinda far with it. We are way behind these guys on the east coast

Picked up a 68 caddy with the Ys up front. Thinking about building it for a show with 4x14 inch bumper brackets up front. I have to leave the frame 18 inches from spring pocket forward. Also can’t close the ys. Would that bumper bracket be enough to cover/strengthen that y up and would it be worth it to run it there? Any help is appreciated!

Post your bumper mounting rules might be a way to get your 4 extra inchs you need and cab you run homemade bumpers?

No brackets are allowed to extend any further back than the first 14 inches of the frame. No brackets inside the frame at all!! Instead of using bumper brackets you are allowed to use 1- 4” wide x 3/8” thick strap extending from your bumper down one side of the frame and cannot extend any further back than the first 14” of the frame. You are also allowed to wrap this strap around the front of the frame 4” to create an “L” shape this is to give you enough material to weld your bumper to the strap. Plate may be formed but it cannot double at any point. A arms I’m allowed 2 2x4 straps that can go inch past widest part of a arm. No homemade but stuffed bumpers allowed

68s came 2 different ways that year, so it still could be a 68, just not the preferred 68.

Just take the correct size c channel and make a nice box straight front rail
