All the way to driveshaft? That’s a huge hole! Lol. I have a CLEAN 74 olds 88 two door for next year and will definitely cut more out. These cars bend quickly. I want all the sheet metal out of the way my cage will take care of it That’s true depends on cage rules I guess. Definitely will be cutting more from the next one.

I've had transmissions explode with no sheetmetal around them......I'll gladly leave as much sheet metal intact as I can.

I have broke to many trans bellhousings to not have anything there. The promoters got rid of the distributor protectors and trans braces in our rules. An old timer I run with/against cuts a few inch wide strip on passenger side of trans tunnel. Bends it a little then bolts some flat stock reconnecting the sheet metal. It looks ugly but he says it works lol.

But I can't stand to look at some of these cars that are cut from the firewall to the belly and left wide open. Even with protectors, I dont like it. Promoters shouldn't allow it.

I had a 1ft square hole cut behind this distributor... Still touched.
