i would take the numbers off the carb and go to a parts store and check to see if the kit you have is right and go from there.

Got a 2G that I am trying to use on a 318. It will start and run, but the choke is not open all the way. When I open the choke by hand, it dies. It will accelerate when I pump the throttle. But Will not run if the choke is open.
I think it is not getting enough fuel. Any help? Thanks Homer

sounds like you have a bad vacuum leak OK. I had a huge vacuum leak. It still not quite right. When you put a carb on a FI engine, do you use timing for a carb or FI? I think I will try and play with the jets. Homer

OK. Is that with the vacuum advance hooked up? Don't normally use it. But maybe this time it needs it.
I did change the jets to bigger jets out of a quadrojet. Helped a lot.

ok have a head scratcher for you guys. I have a car with a 2G on it was running fine no problems took it for a drive and then it started to flood so I checked on it and the needle was sticking open so I took the carb apart didnt find anything wrong that I could see. So I put the carb back on same thing, so I ordered a kit an new float for it cleaned it up and put the kit in and put it back on no change. So I decided my electric fuel pump must be giving too much pressure (had ran this pump several times it is a carter p4070) so I changed pump and took the carb apart again and checked on it nothing wrong that I could tell so I put it back on with the different pump and turned on pump and still did it so I taped on the bowl and it quit for now. Hopefully tomorrow it will still work. Anyone have any ideas what the heck happened?

I'm no carb wiz but I have had really good luck with pulling off carbs and letting them soak for a night in a bucket of diesel and then running some sea foam through before installing than hooking up gas and away we go. Never touched the settings and it never died on me. Carbs are like transmissions to me.... I can rip them apart but going back together and tuning isn't where I am at. Till I can afford a gropp dist and 2g set up I'll keep pulling my carbs off 70s gms and racking them on the shelfs till I feel comfortable with messing with them. So far I have collected 15 or so and haven't paid a dime! No I will not sell them either.

Count exact turns in on anything you pull out. write it down , draw a map if you need. very carefull with the float , to not bend it and screw up the level. Dissasemble , clean spotless . reassemble , but put screws in all the way to bottom. then count exact turns back out ;-) If it was working good before it got dirty . it should work the same now .. You know that little paper filter in a GM carb ? Runnin without it ...is like messing around with another mans wife..
You might get away with it for a bit...but one day you Will pay....
Run the filter , it catches the crap that sneaks into the fuel system when you break lines to swap gear...

So I have a 2brl rochester that is super responsive from idle and climbs really good and than flat lines as if I'm maxing out at 3000-3500k rpms. I'm timed at 12 degrees advance pre-advance and hooked up the vacuum so it should be able to handle 5500 with no problems. Not to sure where to start, if it's carb or dist or both?

Ok guys, I have a olds 307 with the electric q-jet carb on it, is it better to just switch it out for a non-electric carb, or will it mess with the way the motor runs. Also the fuel pump has a return line port on it, will it hurt the pump in any way shape or form or even mess with the way the motor runs or how the pump picks up the fuel?
