How hard would it be to put a 400 BBM in one of these? With a cradle. And engine halo. It's a 72 Poncho if that really matters any. I plan on using a 74-76 Impala core support and a 74 Impala bumper with brackets or even Mopar shocks.
It's also going to be set up to 16" from the ground to the bottom of the back bumper and 22" to the bottom of the front bumper.

Anytime you put a mopar engine in a gm you need a truck pan the spool style mounts with chevy block mounts welded to the frame work well

I just heard through the grapevine that Poncho core supports sucked.
Too low? I guess we'll see on August 24th... I've never seen one run that low, and I wanna see what happens when one is set that low, if it's bad, there's a show 2 weeks after it, and it can get raised back up. But for now, that's what I want to see, a low 71-73 GM. I can add 2 body mounts, and I'm thinking of doing that in the back. Not sure where yet, but when it comes time, I'll figure that out.
And when I read through here, the first page someone said to use 74-76 Chevy shocks. I have my Mopar ones off a Charger that might get used actually.
Looks like it'll have a seam welded 70s Ford Thunderbird bumper ion the front, not sure what else is going to be done up there.

have to disagree-greatly diasagree- would be a better term. ill be polite, but pontiac core supports are absolutely one of the worst designed in the world for derby use. they bolt on from underneath, not above and need too much trimming and relocating of pieces that doing so may not be allowed. never had an issue running the 71-72 style impala cores, much less the 73 and 74 style that is even stronger. just weld the top hold down plate to the core top rail. fold in half, double thickness and weld it, its way stronger than the pontiac support anyway.as far as telling him to not add and extra body mount behind the humps, why?? thats exactly where a 71-73 needs them. after the rear blows apart and stresses the one good remaining mount forward of the c-channel transition, it needs an extra hand in containg all that wadded up mess to be survivable. im trying to be polite, but telling someone to not do something that has been proven to be beneficial just doesnt cut it.. run the chevy core support, run the extra added mount and you will be much happier than not.

cheesy, i'll let it be on the core support, agree to disagree there, imo not worth changing in the derby world today with 1" rod, core availability, etc. bolt tight and let it be, good bumper keeps everything more than the support... as for the extra mount, i should have phrased that differently, in the fact that extra mount anywhere within the last 4 is going to not help, agreed in the hump area yes, this is where any extra needs to go...

1" rod can go through the frame and core. Which I'm doing.
Extra body mount I'm adding, but not sure where yet.
This car is 99.9% rust free, only 1 hole in the trunk. What would be a good height to run it at? Solid suspensions, prob a chained rear. Level? 20"? The front will be 22".

whats the biggest things to pay attention to while building a 72 impala? any specific things that need done to the trunk or frame in the back to make sure they roll in perfectly? plan to take this car to a decently hard hitting derby. Nothing extreme, but they dont play real nice either. limited weld rules.

Ok thanks. any special way I should pay attention to the front? hard nose or no? just suck the front body mount up tight, or completely take it out and put a washer or two there instead? I wont be using this car until july or august probably, but I want to make sure its built right. Im going to the derby to take some money home, not just to wreck stuff, so I want it done right and strong. Not going to sand bag either.

Any suggestions on hard nosing a 73 caprice? Can't change brackets and can't use shocks if hardnosed. What's best way to do this?

73 caprice has shocks and cups on the frame. Slightly different style cups than 74-6 but 74-6 shocks will work in them. Can directly bolt up a 74-6 bumper done
