Seen it done, never tried it. I think it's a good idea to try. Be better if you were allowed to weld trunk lid seams with it flipped and exposed maybe you could call it an 'outside' seam. That would stiffen up that trunk lid to help it roll and pack. It's important on these cars and 4-6 sedans also to get the sheet metal to pack in to help you achieve a good roll. I don't claim to be an expert at it, had some work and some didn't work. X2 I also think thats vital to a hard rear on any car really.

not that I recall. Mostly will depend on how far back you put the brackets. 73 brackets are different than 4-6's.

Any body ever hard nosed the front on 72 and 73 impala. With 76 front bumper both have good frames one of them has rusty floor boards will be for stock shows. And should u cut corners off bumper. I usually leave them bend them around about 90 degres

I hard nose them from time to time, but with a round steel tubing replacement for the original bumper shock (on the 73's) to put inside the shock tower. If you are hardnosing, the 76 front bumper (unless loaded) will give out on the corners and cave in from the center after a while (not necessarily the first derby, but depends on what you are hitting and more importantly, what's hitting you). If you are going hardnose I would suggest 74/75 impala bumper, 74 Monte bumper, shocker pointy, or steel vic bumper in that order. If the 76 is all you have, seam weld it if allowed, load it if allowed, and trim the ends, they will just wrap backwards anyways.

I was wondering how these cars are. Do they have any strong spots or all weak. It would be a stock derby welded bumpers and no bumper swap no imperials. Or could find a derby to swap bumpers if car is any good.

Definatley a decent car for a stock derby. Too bad you cant change bumpers because the front bumper is junk.

i got a 73 impala, stock show rules say weld doors, and weld any bumper on, weld bumper shocks to frame. i have to wire trunk in 4 places or 2 5/8s all thread in very back body bushings through frame and trunk then 2 places wired. and wire hood in 4 places with 1" allthread through front body bushings up through core support and hood. whats the best thang to do to the back and front end for this derby?

I have a 1972 caprice classic and i was going to cut 4 inches off of the front frame rails and move everything back. Would this make the front like a rock and does anyone see any problems with doing this?

Why not just weld a front bumper and 74-76 Chevy brackets or 74-76 bop brackets on? Then your core support and everything else lines up. These are great cars capable of winning most derbies you don't really have to over think them.

I have derbied several 70's gm products and they do bend infront of the c channel every time. and what we do is lay shocker shocks from the a-arms forward its allowed in our rules and then weld a 74 chevy on the front 1/2 on the shock and 1/2 on the frame i just thought it might make it stronger if the frame was shorter. More less of a leverage point.
