First time building a 73 estate wagon any help would be helpfull.. putting a 8.75 rear end in the rear Get rid of the front bumper and go with a 74 - 76 if you can. 73's are know culprits to break right in half.

Doing a rear end swap on an early 70's GM wagon. Got the old diff out. The leaf pack on the left side has the nut broke/rusted off the bottom of the leaf pack.
Question is if I put it all together and suck it all tight with new U bolts is the the missing nut on the leaf pack going to cause an issue?

The nut that your talking about is for the center pin to help make the axle sit straight on the leaf pack. . They are not hard to replace and sell the part at any parts store.

Looks fairly rusted in the springs themselves. Whats the best way to go about removing it?

clamp the springs together with a couple C clamps and knock it out with a hammer and punch, buy proper size replacement grade 8 center pin from auto parts store. do not just use any old bolt you find laying around. Tighten center pin, remove clamps, and reinstall rearend. If you dont replace it and the spring back comes apart or allows the rearend to slide you have officially wasted one of the few remaining magical mythical roundback wagons...

So L have a 74 pontiac wagon with a chev front end including horns on it. Been in two derbies and still in good shape. the back end is solid and the front end is straight. it was bent up quite a bit last derby at the fire wall but I pulled it down and she looks good. I want to enter a derby in a couple of weeks that allow 12 inches of 1/4 inch plate firewall forward. I am assuming that i should put it on the spot where it bent before. Anybody got any suggestions as to how I should do this? I don,t want to take the body off the frame to weld on the top of the frame. Any help would be greatly welcome. Thanks

I know this sounds weird, but I believe the 3 seated Wagons had 7 leafs and the 2 seated Wagons had 9 leafs. Maybe the 7 leaf pack has heavier duty leafs than the 9 leaf pack?

Never mind that, I have a 3 seat 74 Pontiac Wagon with 9 leafs. A couple of the bottom leafs are real short though...
