My brother and i are building a 73 and 74 caddys and were hardnosing them and i was wondering the best way to do it? Weld them straight to frame and incorporate the bracket someway or just weld the bumper and leave it alone? How do u guys get bumper height on them? Were use to running 75-76 caddies and running brackets so we didnt worry about bumper height. How did the cali guys at mm get their bumper up so high? Thanks

Bumper height is an issue when hard nosing. Other than that build and learn.

I had a feeling bumper height is a problem especially caddies, im thinking 7.50 15s mite help a little bit and with the big block coming out it will raise some im just hoping its enough. This the last thing to do to this car and have to install my built cross member in it. If anyone else has any ideas please share on here or pm if u would. Thanks

Even with the suspension fully locked out and the tallest 7.5's on there bumper height is still and issue. On the brightside it seems to be the lowest level of bumper height that "works" but still leaves your car suseptable to cars with higher bumpers. There are ways around it depending on what your rules allow.

I think ill try to avoid getting hit by or hitting taller cars even though our track im running is at an angle which kind of sucks. Ive seen a 74 caddy run and seem like when he went nose to nose he didnt have a problem with bumpers clearing his bumper and i know there was tilted fords there so maybe ill get lucky and not have a problem with it well see though. Is the back any different than a 75-76 caddy? Should i build it the same way? Thanks

The 74 is just like the 75/6 in the back but the 73 is its own one year only rear frame. Yes build them the same but the 73 needs some more attention.

I never had a problem running a low bumper height. I don't run a rad either.

I have a 73 cdv and I got my motor in and I'm getting ready to finish it up, the derby is Saturday, and I realized my tie rod hits my oil pan when I turn to the right? What would be the best "quick fix" for this? I dont have time to redo the engine mounts, but was thinking of just bending the tie rod a little or maybe pounding a little dent in my oil pan... I only need about 1/2" to 1.5" of clearance to make everything clear??? Motor is a sbc 350

you could probably unbolt the idler arm and drop it down some then weld it to frame that mite get you what you need

or if you can get in there to heat the idler and pitman arm and just bend them down.... easy fix
