2017 Day Of Mayhem Rules
General Fairground Rules
You are competing at your own risk. Those competing in the event, drivers, fans and or pit crews are responsible for there own safety and equipment. The Waseca County Fair, promoter, sponsors, agents, volunteers, workers, heirs and successors will not be held responsible for any accidents, damage or theft.You must be 16 years of age to run and be in the pits, anyone under the age of 18 will need a minor release form signed by a parent/guardian and notarized signature.
All drivers must have a photo ID to be paid (No Exceptions).
Any harassment of judges, fair board members, promoters staff and competitors or crews will not be tolerated. You may be escorted out by police and or/barred for 2 years. Promoters discretion.
No inappropriate behavior or language will not be tolerated in the pits or on the track. Any inappropriate language or symbols on your vehicle or clothing and you will be asked to remove it or leave. This is a family show.
Absolutely NO ALCOHOL in the pits. There will be plenty of law enforcement walking around and checking coolers.
The fair board and promoter are not responsible for cars left after the derby. any car or truck left on fairgrounds after 8:00 am the following day will become property of promoter.
The inspecters will do the inspecting. If you think somebody is cheating let us know
Competition Rules For Events
When you are flagged out, you must stay in your car with helmet, eye protection and seat belts on until the heat is over or when an official tells you to get out.
Drivers door hits are illegal. If the hit is deemed by official to be careless or intentional, you will be disqualified. If you are using your door as a defense, we will not enforce the rule.
Any open door will be cause for disqualification.
Fires you are allowed one fire, the second you will be disqualified.
You must make an aggressive hit every 20 seconds. 1 minute start time. No pin to win, for derby
Sandbagging will not be tolerated and will be strictly enforced. Locking up brakes prior to a hit for any other reason than a drivers door hit will be cause for disqualification, for derby
No team driving, for derby
All driver must keep arms inside cars.
Watch your flag men for red flags, when you see red stop where your at.
General rules all classes
Preparation: All outer hardware must be removed including door handles, mirrors, headlights, marker lights, turn signal lenses, chrome, molding screws, fiberglass. All burnable material must be removed. Bumper covers may be taken off. All glass must be removed and swept out of car. Wagons: all inside panels and rear seats must be removed.Hoods: Must cut a 10"x 10" min. fire hole in hood.
Batteries: Must be in a metal box or tray, an bolted in 4 places, bolts no smaller than 3/8" and must be covered. 1 battery,
Gas Tanks For Youth & Powder Puff Demo Cars: Stock gas tank must be removed from car and replaced with a steel tank, bolted in 4 places through the floor pan in center of back seat, bolts no smaller than 3/8" and must be covered, 6 gallon max. Gas line must be mounted to floor.
Gas Tanks For Cars Racing: Tanks in front of rear axle may stay in places, gas tanks behind rear axle must be moved inside car and securely fastened down and covered, Gas line must be mounted to the floor,
Fuel Pumps: No electric fuel pumps, unless they came from factory with one. If you have one, you must run a separate on and off switch, and it must be clearly marked which position is off, and mounted close to the driver. Fuel injected cars must use fuel injected gas line hose.
Pump gas only, no Alcohol.
Brakes: All vehicles running in the derby must have brakes, this will be checked in inspection.
Windsheild Bars: Mandatory in all cars and trucks who are racing on track
Air Bags: Must be removed.
Roll Bar: All cars and trucks who are racing on the race track, must have a 2 Point roll over bar welded to floor and bolted to roof.
Any tire allowed for race events.
Skid plates are allowed on any car or truck racing.
No chain binders on any vehicle, no wheel weights
Midsize Powder Puff Rules/ Rookie Class
This class is for women and kids(rookies) 16 to 18.111" or less Front Wheel Drive Only
May hot wire and take dash out and modify shifter.
Door bars: May have seat bar and dash bar, may connect on driver's side only, must be at least 8" off floor and seat bar no further than 6" behind seat. no bars to floor, no reinforcing floor, if rusty call.
Door plate optional, no further then 6" past drivers door seams, 15" wide max.
Radiator: Stock radiator in stock position, ac condenser only in front of radiator, may use seat belts, ratchet straps or wire to hold in place, no spray foam allowed.
Tires & Wheels: Any 6 ply dot street tire, must be able to read ply rating, no fluid-filled, cement, solid, studded, implement, trailer or skidloader tires allowed. Stock wheels, Valve stem protectors allowed, must be flush with outer wheel, no tire skins on outside, no wheel weights.
Frames: No seam welding, adding plates or stuffing, must have stock body mounts, rusty ones maybe replaced..
Bodies: No seam welding, no pre-bending any body panel, no extra bolts, wire, duct tape or foam filled panels, may cut for tire clearance, but no adding bolts.
Hoods, Trunks, Doors, Wagon Tailgates: May be chained or wired in 4 places. Drivers door may be welded inside and outside, no welding tops of doors.
Bumpers: Must be stock, bumpers may be bolted on, and have one single loop of 3/8" chain per side, end may be cut but no sharp edges, no old school bumpers. Bumper height 26" to top of bumper.
Motor and Transmissions: Stock motors, may use 3/8" chain to hold motors in place, no engine cradles, no protectors, no aftermarket parts, no headers allowed, all cars must have an air cleaner. Stock transmissions coolers only in stock location, lines may be looped.
Rear-ends: Must be stock.
Suspensions: Stock OEM parts, no reinforcing any parts. No leaf spring brackets, lift kits, helper springs, overload springs, solid shocks, wiring, welding or duct taping springs. Car must bounce.
This class is a low dollar class, please keep the cost down.
Power Wheels
1) This is supposed to be fun for the kids, Parents, PLEASE don’t ruin it for them.2) This is for kids ages 3 - 6 & ages 7 - 10, each class will run for 12 minutes
3) Derby is limited to 6 or 12 volt power wheels only.
4) No added reinforcement for strength, let the kids have fun painting them.
5) Stock tires only, no screws in tires, No Chains, Etc.
6) Do not raise or lower. Power Wheels must sit like it came from the store.
7) Stock battery can be replaced with 12 volt lawn mower battery. Batteries MUST be secured.
8) Helmets are mandatory, bicycle helmet is ok.
9) Seatbelts are recommended.
10) No Passengers.
11) Everyone must pre-enter, because every child will receive a trophy.
12) When choosing a Power Wheels for your child, Please keep in mind that these vehicles will be running into each other. The power Wheel will need to be the kind that your child sits in, Not on. So, NO 4 WHEELERS, TRACTORS, MOTORCYCLES, Etc. Again Sit, Not on.
ENTRY FEE: $5.00 : plus this gets your kid Into the grandstand, Parents can pay grandstand price, all parents and kids must go to grandstand after Power Wheels class
Trailer Races: 1 trailer race for full size and trucks, 1 trailer race for midize and mini's( 6 cyl or 4 cyl), any kind of vehicle with a trailer attached on a solid ball hitch, no swivel hitches or pinned hitches. Any kind of trailer allowed (campers, boats, ect.. Be Creative!) The trailers must be between 10’ to 22’ in length, any tire on pull rigs.. Once your trailer is disconnected from the ball you are disqualified. must have safety chains bolted to trailer and car. You can not hit the tow vehicles from in front of rear tires foward. We strongly recommend you put as much crazy thing on your trailer as you can but you can not have any loose objects on your trailers everything needs to be strap down somehow, no drain tile.
Midsize 111" or less, rear wheel drive cars 108" or less. Minis ( Compact trucks, Mini vans and Small suv's ) 10 laps
Full size cars & Trucks 10 laps
Driver who puts on the best show wins Extreme Driver. Object of race to take out other trailers, This event is meant to be a crowd thriller.
Lawn Mower Derby & Race Rules
If you race you must demo alsoRace will be 8 laps(Track on front stretch)
1. Participants must be 16 years of age or older. All 16 and 17 year olds must have a parent or guardian present and have a signed consent form.
2. Entry Fee $35
3. Any riding mower with a front mounted engine is allowed. No rear mounted engines will be permitted. 16 horse power maximum. Electric start preferred but if you have a pull start you must be able to start it FROM YOUR SEAT. No zero turn mowers.
4. All decks must be removed.
5. You may make a homemade exhaust but it must point straight up.
6. Bars must be welded on the side of the mower for leg and foot protection only. 1/4" thick steel maximum.
7. If battery or fuel tank is in the front of the engine it must be moved to a safe location.
8. You may make and use a hand throttle.
9. Hoods must be bolted or wired down tightly.
10. You may use a spark plug, carburator and oil filter protectors.
11. Nothing may protect the tires in any way.
12. No frame reinforcement permitted on stock mowers.
13. Pulleys may be changed to your desired gearing.
15. Helmets and boots are required.
16. No homemade mowers are permitted.
17. Rear wheels may be no larger than 13".Must be lawn mower tire, no duals, chains or wheel weight. Air only in tires.
18. Drivers are to remain on their mowers at all times unless mower is tiped over. No getting off to work on your mower. Doing so will result in disqualification.
19. Absolutely no sandbagging or gang hitting. You will receive one warning. Second time will result in disqualification. You will have 60 seconds to make an aggressive hit or you will be disqualified.
20. If engine stalls you will be given 1 minute to restart.
21. Lawn Mower Race: Track will be on front stretch, race will be 8 laps
22. Must be stock lawn mower engine's, no built one's
23. ALL JUDGES DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
Appliance Race: Midsize or minis, 6 or 4 cyl (no compact trucks) 3 person teams (one driver, two pit crew member).start at start line, make 1 lap go to pits add 1 appliance, make 2nd lap go to pits add 2nd appliance, make 3rd lap go to pits add 3rd and final appliance,(must come in to pits slow), then race 4 laps to the finish line,1st to finsh with 3 appliances wins. If an appliance falls off you must return to pits to get another appliance. May use any kind of strap that you see fit to hold an appliance on your car. All cars must have a trunk and hood. Each car must provide 3 straps to compete in this event. May add hooks for the straps for convenience. Use your creativity to win this race.
Train Race: 2 vehicles wll be tied together, 1 forward and 1 backwards, 1st drivers to complete 8 laps is the winner, if car's come apart you team is disqualified, 8 laps.
Drag race: Race down front stretch and touch barrel and race backwards to start line, win and you move on to next round, must stay in your lane or you will be disqualified.
