Most will say a 10/12 hybrid GM, an 8.75 Mopar, or a Ford nine inch. Its all personal oreference. You can even build a decent 8.8 if your rules allow.

Depends, can you convert axles to 5 lug? Is there a limit? Are you allowed 1-ton axles? Full-float axles?

The SS chevy trucks had 5x5 corporate 14 bolt rears under them. Our rules state passenger car rears only.

See our rules don't specify what they can be out of, just have to be 5 lug 31 spline no bracing

A 14 is definitely not 31 spline.

That's exactly what I was getting at stromi. The ss 454 corp. 14 is a stout rearend.

In every case I've seen, the 12 bolt axles will hold up better than the 9" axle. I've had gm axles bend and twist, all my 9" axles have just snapped in various places.
Could just have been my luck also

Rear-ends are to remain (5) Lug stock rearends, maximum 31 spline axles. Spider Gears only may be welded. Rear coil springs may be wired in to hold them in place. Leaf spring cars must use only factory spring clamps. (rearend rules for show)
