For those who remember me, I am the guy who made "Demolition Derby & Figure 8 Race". I have been getting emails telling me to make a sequel and I decided to do it. The new game is simply called "Demo Derby" and it is being produced by my new company Game Mechanics. Last time I made the game I had a publisher who paid to get the game made. This time there are no publishers interested. So to get the game made, I need some support from the demolition derby community. This isn't a hand out. I will use the money to get art, sound, music and a few dollars will keep the lights on. In return I am offering things that will not be available once the game ships. I am also offering early access to those who want to see the game before it ships and give feedback to make the game better. If you are interested, follow the link to our Kickstarter page: And tell others about what we are doing. That is what made the first game have such a huge following. Everyone who helps get the game made is on our team. I hope to have you on the team! John C. Ardussi Game Mechanics Here are some screenshots to give you an idea how much better it will look.

What systems will it be on? Is this a start up company? How much capital do you need to raise?

The company has been around for 5 years. It is still in the startup phase based on revenue. We are looking to raise $30,000 through our Kickstarter. In exchange for the money we are offering rewards that are exclusive to backers. Even if you just buy the game now, you will get it for the same price it will be at release and it will arrive before the general public gets it. Plus you will get a badge for online play that will show people you backed the game.

I was extremely excited at first, then noticed it looks like its on nearly the same engine. I know that it takes a lot of time, resources, MONEY to make a game ground up, however using physics and graphics that were out 5+ years ago..I'm not sure you'll get a ton of support.
However, prove me wrong and build on an engine where the cars actually bend somewhat concurrent to how real derby cars bend(much better physics than what was in the old game), and some improved graphics...You may get my support.
I do however, hope you find the support you are looking for, and can prove me wrong. All we have right now are 10+ year old games with outdated physics/graphics, and 2 games that are still heavily in development(neither of which are specifically derby games, but have "derby modes")..one of which i like to play, but cant stand the fenders, bumpers, hoods, etc blowing off after getting damaged. Give me a game where the car BENDS somewhat realistically, everything stays attached to the car(except maybe the bumpers, RARELY) and modern(at least last 5 years) graphics and I'm sold.

There is no code from the original game in here. The original game used a tin foil type algorithm for denting cars. The spot where it was hit would be pushed in and then a crinkle algorithm would add detail. If you lasted long enough your car would resemble a crinkled ball of tin foil.
The current engine is brand new. It has room for improvement, but it is 1000 times more realistic than the original game. There is a lot of work to be done on the cars and the game engine between now and release time, but it is not that bad.
If you wait until it is done to get it, it may not get done. Also people will be out there talking about the game, wearing game t-shirts and bragging about being in the game at derbies this Summer. That is when you will know you missed this opportunity.
If you want more derby games, you should support them while you can.

I just want to point out one thing that is very promising about this guys. Don't over look the fact that we have a guy here who has all ready done this and came thru with real results. This isn't a fresh upstart with a pie in the sky dream telling us what we want to hear and cashing out when it doesn't happen. He gave us one game already that was very solid for the era. If your going to get behind any effort to do this My opinion is go for someone who has come thru before.

Have you thought about hosting that game through Steam as an Alpha game, work in progress. So players can spend money towards the project and you can slowly do updates to the game as money comes in. Many Indie companies are having success with this concept.

Good call. The problem with that is if you run out of money before you are done, you are in trouble. That is why we do the Kickstarter first. But Steam is the next step.

The problem I think you're going to have is the target audience that you're gathering money from. There aren't THAT many people who derby, and the number of them that play PC games is even lower. Targeting PC gamers in general, through Steam would probably yield better results. Steam would be a good place to go once you've got a playable platform. The good thing about Steam, other than a lot of exposure on a very widely used game library, is that there isn't any requirement for you to leave beta. You can, if you need, work on it as revenue allows. I can only name two games that have actually had a full release on steam out of early access, one of which was by a major company, so really only 1 small time company game that made a full release (I think the appeal to staying in beta is more updates = more sales and renewed interest in the game, as well as no pressure to have a perfectly running game)

I funded a $100...im hoping that this thing get funded...All though i seen the game wreckfest was cancelled and they started up on steam and have come along way. Plus i think that it would expose the game to the more casual gamer if it were on steam. IMO

This is Awesome.
We have been asking for the next generation and the developer has a proven track record of creating a game dedicated to demolition derby. I know when an option for a derby game was being proposed by a other developers, even though they requested our input, what was really made was another game that demolition derby enthusiasts have little to no interest in.
I know what needs to be done for the next demolition derby game, and anyone looking at that DDF8 thread, knows how much interaction I have had with all the people here, and the input that people wanted to see in the old game, especially for all of our online fun.
You all know, that DDF8 was/is a really fun game, and I figured out the ports, the routers, the anti virus, all those things that happened over the 15 years since the original was released , we still had a HELL OF ALOT of FUN.
When I host, everyone is having shits and giggles. We have played 1000s of derbies , I mean literally 1000s, and I held 3 to 4 tournaments a year.
We , the USERS OF THE GAME, continued to make that game work because it was so much fun. Because it was a really fun DEMOLITION DERBY game and there is no rival for single and multiplayer out there.
So, as you all know, back in 2010 I got the online going for ddf8 again, but , its now 2016, 6 years on, and the old games run out of tricks. And I love the old game. But ... I no longer have time to set up peoples routers, I know I have done that for hundreds of people, and while the game continued to work on Vista and Windows7, it just can't work on Windows8 and 10 as Microsoft isn't supporting the original directx format which handles the graphics and online stuff.
And so..... JUST AS MANY players were beginning to grieve over the fact that as they got newer computers, the game could no longer be used on them, and I have watched this for the past couple years, and knowing that nothing could be done to keep a 15 year old game active..just think we were playing a 14 year old game and LOVED IT...
BOOM!!! GAME MECHANICS announces its ready to create a modern, demoderby game with modern graphics, and online play without the hassles of the past.
This is EXACTLY what we want, and not only that, we don't have to explain , why we don't won't doors flying off or powerups, like I have to with every other developer.
GAME MECHANICS already has a great baseline of what the demo derby community wants.
GAME MECHANICS has sent positive signals to the modding community of the original game and to the demo derby enthusiasts and drivers.
When the original game was made, it was made with the input of the derby community. When I found the game, I couldn't believe someone made a realistic demolition derby game.
For the 5 years I hosted demolition derbies we always had a want list for the original. That was for a game that was already 10 years old.
WOW... now that can happen, Modern Graphics , Easier Online Game access all within a real derby game.
As you know I have been on this forum for many many many years , modding, making cars and tracks for DDF8 and hosting derbies for many of you whom .
I have pitched into the kickstarter campaign. This is how we create the game we want.
The modding community from the original pioneers, who showed us how to put our own cars into the game (all demolition derby drivers), all the way to the young guns of today, some still in their teens, some who did their first real derbies at 14 and 15 years of age, have submitted improvements to the original and are all looking forward to the new release.
This is going to be the best demolition derby game made. The modern graphic potential will do more then make the cars look great, the tracks are going to look amazing. I am really impressed with some of the early screenshots and its only going to get better.
513, ... you are going to want this.... I know it.
