Anyone run one of these? I know... I sound like a n00b. Rules allow a cage, 1" all thread, tubing for front bumper. The main goal will be putting the car out of its misery. Any pointers or similar cars are appreciated.

What body style is it? I ran a 2002 and it made it through 3 derbies. Got a 3rd (heat then feature all compacts), 4th (one and done with 32 cars including built W's), and 5th (small heat against a team of 5 built W's).

Don't hit with the front at all. Back is also soft but folds in nice with a dimple. My 05 had a plastic core support and the frame rails twist like pretzels very easily. I took the trunk lid off and dimpled the frame and it went up nice.

I wouldn't take the trunk lid off. They fold nice in the rear as is.

I'm curious if the generation of Ford Focus makes a difference on how strong these cars are. Because I have seen derbies where focus's hold up pretty good front and back. But online I hear how they can be soft cars.

I would put them right along with escorts, structurally they are different but perform about the same. That being said I think Both may be slightly under rated. You will never hit all night with the front or rear but if you avoid crippling front wheel shots and drive smart both have the drivetrains to last till the end.

If anybody have videos to back up the claims,I would love to see them.never seen one do well.they are like a softer escort.they pack well in the back, wagon is preferred, for obvious reasons.... With that said, had an 03 driver when I was 16.hit a spike horn at about 100.bent the hood up a little at grill area......and that's it.could have bought it back.No pics. Had an 09 driver.hit a Honda odessy, referred to as the Honda Sherman odessy.i t boned the rear passenger door of it at 20.ripped the fender to hell, crush boxes did there job,and core support exploded.got to see it on a lift, but didn't take any pics.but here is the bad side.

make sure to cut the 2 wires to the inertia switch or use a scotchlock connector to quick splice them together if you don't connect the wires together the switch will go off from a hit, its the same as the old tempos when the switch goes off it shuts down the injectors the switch is usually under the passenger side kick panel cover and wire the hood down in 8 places tightly if your rules allow it when i ran mine i wired it in 8 spots and i hit hard with the front end and didnt even pop the rad but the guy in the heat after me had it wired in 2 places and his first hit with the front end the rad popped

I only run focuses and escorts now, I use to run anything I could find. but from experience it's much easier to pick a specific brand and make and run with it and I've done well even won. Tips if the rules allow always use angle iron and bolt to the hood for your tie downs and use bolts to hold the 2 angles together. And always run 1/2" - 3/4" threaded rod up thru the rad cradle thru the hood and bolt with huge washers. Big Washers are key.
As for the rails pretzeling there's a trick. The rear ends go up no matter what. People say never run rear bumpers because they go down. these cars no, run a solid solid bumper and it keeps the rails from twisting. And keeps the car straight. Weld it solid and bolt it.
