I have a lead on a 1973 Impala and a 1976 Monte. Which would be better for bone stock? I'm talking weld the doors shut and chain the hood and trunk. No touching the body or frame. Also no bumper swaps but I might be able to get a hold of a 74-76 Impala bumper to put on the Impala.

You say no bumper swaps but can put a 74-76 Impala bumper on a 73 Impala?

If your allowed a bumper swap, I'd go 73, but no bumper swap, I'd go with the Monte.

I would use the monte cause it will work just fine, and save the impala for a better derby.

Those Monte Carlos are pretty stout in the stock form. The front bumpers are pretty good, too. I run them on my GM products in the stock classes.

The monte has a SHIT front frame if left stock... But yes, good bumper.

Get the one that's the best deal. Impala is the better car if same amount of rust and price.
Monte front end in a chain class will wreck some sh!t don't let the haters throw you off. Make smart hits and she'll do work. Won't hold up nose to nose with full size old iron, just don't go there lol.

Side of a monte= a rock with a good cage, 4 doors are much more easily compromised IMO

i knew what he meant but thats the last thing i worry about. safety gear makes the car safe, and if its a 4 door post then its tougher then a two door. so thats kinda a moot point without knowing.

Different areas of the world different drivers. Every time I ran my monte the sides got beat to hell and I did 90% of the frame damage by hitting people at my own discretion. There's a ton of variables, I always tried to stay on the move doing laps until I saw a shot I liked. And many times outran (got out of the way) guys with motors/gears with a Stock motor and stock gear in one of these. Make of the car doesn't win a small derby IMO. Granted with stout competition, a more stout car can't hurt. But it sounds to me that this guy is just learning and a "decent" monte isn't a bad place to learn some stuff!

Mid Size gms are definitely versatile cars that are wonderful beginner cars. Decent front and backs. Very easy to maneuver.
