IT WAS THE RIGHT CALL! Here is the skinny. Westmoreland Fairgrounds is 22 minutes east from our shop, it would have been so convenient for us to derby at this venue that we grew up on and started this addiction. However when it rains the type of rainfall that did, and that was forecasted, it is one of the worst venues in the country. You would have needed all terrain tow vehicles to tow out the tow vehicles and the cars. In addition the unprofessionalism from the contact at the Fair Board would not even entertain a makeup date for BLM. They fought Bo with road block after roadblock since he announced the venue. Of course it sucks for us to travel 2 hours north but we adapt and will be there.
It was a call made for safety of the DRIVERS, mostly PIT CREW and FANS, Sure the stands would have been full rain or shine just as they were in Brookville last year, but that venue is more condusive to an extremely bad weather forecast which turned out to be the case on Saturday.
In addition BLM will lose all of their advertising $ and down payment fees from re-scheduling and changing the location to the event. He DID NOT change the payouts though!!!! So look at it as a blessing for all the Drivers that needed the extra 2 weeks to get their cars done perfectly!
On July 12th this will be nothing but an after thought!!!!

And if it had kept raining and the weather was crappy I would bet my bottom dollar that you would have been the first in line to piss and moan about how it should have been canceled and he is nothing but a greedy promoter out for nothing but to line his pockets with cash and doesn't give a rats ass about the safety of the drivers or the fans. I'm not calling Bo a greedy promoter and I'm sure safety was a concern but I have to think lost revenue had a lot to do with the decision also. No promoter is in it to lose money, I don't know if it could have been handled differently but like I suggested in the other post, could it have been run on Sunday? [/quote] From my gathering to all I talked to, the fairbord wouldn't let him have the track for any other dates. Other then in late August I was one to jump all over BOcabout his decision. But after my Blood pressure came back to normal I understand why he made that call.

It helped me a ton by changing the date. I was already tight for time but my grandfather passed on Tuesday morning and would have wiped out my hopes of making it. Pap must have wanted me to run

Is this going worth going to watch? Coming from Southern Ohio so I dont want to drive a distance to a 30 car show. What are the track and stands like? Camping? Great show IMO. Huge pit with Giant Tires laying flat surround the arena. Makes it harder to get hung up on and when a tire moves a small skid loader comes around to push it back in place. Last yr the show started at 6? and went past midnight. Covered grandstands set around 5k people I was told. Cant remember last yrs car count but I believe it was around 50 - 60. Rained all day and I heard* from a few that some drivers didnt show bc of the crummy weather. Last yr some fresh roundys, Old Fords and many GM sedans along with some newer Fords were in the show. It was a good mix with good cars/drivers/drivetrains. I cant make it this year but I would recommend the show. I should add I drove a bit over 3 hours from north central Ohio to make the trip.

I'm gonna guess there will be about 65-75 big cars this year. But it's definately worth the trip...awesome track, huge grandstands.

Good luck to all my northeastern derby family. Wish I still lived in Ohio! Good luck to all of those that are traveling too!
