ive been curious about what you guys run for tranny fluid in your derby car Ive read a lot about the motor oils everybody runs but is there a difference in the automatic tranny fluids available? and is it better to use some used tranny fluid when filling a transmission up after say a filter change etc.? what addatives do you guys use? on my current tranny im running an aod wired 3/4 open and I filled it with new oreilys atf and a bottle of lucas tranny stop slip, have you guys noticed any different in the brands of atf? or am I ok with running the cheaper oreilys brand? I was considering trying the b and m trick shift on my next transmission should I or should I stick with a stock atf? and also what do you guys use for a fix to get you back on the track if you start experiencing problems? im going to be running a wire class figure 8 in a week and a half with a clean up derby afterwards and an oval track race to end the night so I could possibly run 5 times in one night and I just want to finish the car off the fluid I have now has a blackish tint to it but mostly still bright red after 2 hard derbys a 6th out of 16 in the feature and a 4th out of 22. so im worried about having tranny problems running that many races on an aod. ive always used the lucas stop slip but my dad told me in a bad pinch you could run type f I think it was and the clutches would grab enough for another run. but what do you guys do? just trying to start a discussion so I have a few options and maybe help a few people out, thankyou!

I run the tractor. Trans hydraulic fluid mix. Works very well in my trans same here,,, light tractor hydraulic fluid,,, cheaper than the red stuff,, regular mercon or the old dextron will work,, yes,, the old type f will work too,, that stuff is like the tractor fluid,, I had an old loader that used type F... we even saved clean trans fluid out of old transes and used that.. LOL ........ lenny

All I use is type f. I used to run tractor fluid or hydraulic oil but everytime I pulled a pan the fluid had a nice grey tint to it....., and it took 5 minutes of running the car to get the fluid to thin out to go into gear right. Also liked to burp on me. Type F from now on for me.

Always whatever's on the shelf.... Usually the welfare brand Dex III from Fleet Farm or something in a really big jug lol. Had real bad luck with tractor hydro oil a few years ago, cost me an easy win

I can just about promise it wasn't the hydraulic fluid that let y'all down. Something else was most likely already bad internally. The hydraulic fluid will take MUCH more heat and abuse than reg trans fluid!
