^^^Big major huge difference between 3.4 and 3400. This is very true, good point. 😎 This is what I like about this site, being able to bounce info off each other 👍

What's everyone's opinion on the 3.4 engine? I've only ran the 3.1 but recently found a car with a 3.4 and don't know if I should pick it up or not. 3.4 dohc ?? I'd pull it scrap weight........And drop in a Carb/Dist 3.1 or 3100. I agree with ditching the 3.4 dohc, we run 3100's and flat top 3.1's.

I've never used either one on the track. On the road, the 3.4 has noticeably more punch, but is more finicky and higher maintenance than the 3400.

It's a Monte Carlo with the 3.4, I'll probably pass on it. Thanks guys! Get the Car and find a good reliable eng/trans combo for swaps. i have 2-carb/dist 3.1's and 1 has a cracked & welded bell that have been in 3 for the eng and 4 for the eng/trans combo. around here you find running rusty ass shit boxes, or the clean cars don't run,

Got a question might just might be over thinking this. I use to run carb/hot wired coil pack set up in my one car. Car ran good but just felt like timing wasn't there. Talked to a couple guys and ended up ordering a distributor from Mckim Fab for my 3100. I just ordered it yesterday so it's not here yet. But I was wondering do I just time it like a sbc, bring cylinder 1 up tdc and set distributor there to get it to fire then adjust from there. Also being able to get the timing more on point do you think I should change up jets a little bit since it should be burning fuel better with better timing. I'm not asking to be spoon-fed info just throwing this out there to get some pointers from you guys running this setup.
