I was thinking the same thing. I am also wondering what everybody is doing about the serpentine belt set up. Do you leave it or run put on all new brackets and pulleys? Some people run the stock set up. I swapped water pumps from older engine and got all the front parts, pulleys, power steering, alternator and brackets, used the same harmonic balancer that came on the engine and everything bolted up no problem. But now that I unsure if my 91 block has a fuel pump lobe. I have to take it all off to check cam, and replace if not one there. Rather update than innovate.

it is hit or miss with the fuel pump lobe. if it doesnt have one just run a inline fuel pump. been running one for a while and it works great

I have never ran one for fear of adding another electrical component to the list of possible failures but at the same time a mechanical can go out too. Pre 88 cams had a lobe cut but anything newer doesn't have them. So yeah I suppose the block off plate can go back on and give it a shot, usually can get the same result and lose in a derby anyways so why not.

Ive done it with the drill and tap method with a chevy style carb worked great (next two is what I do for motorcraft carbs )also done it with an aluminum plate that was built from a 3/4 inch plate and the best way I have come up with believe it or not was a wood plate it seemed to insulate the carb from heat a little and much easier than the aluminum and less risky that dropping anything in the intake while drilling and taping the intake (I never remove the intake for any methods) and yes I put something in the holes but you know expect the unexpected I have seen some tbi engines as late as 93 with a lobe for fuel pump like said before its hit or miss on the cam I also always go with old style waterpump and belt setup

If you end up deciding to stick with TBI, you can VERY EASILY run a cheap $120 electric fuel pump and a fuel cell. My 92 Roadmaster has a 5.7, requires 9-13 PSI of fuel pressure. I imagine the 305 is probably about the same. The throttle body had it's own pressure regulator, so all you need to do is install the fuel cell in the preferred location, hook up the fuel pump in line, wire it to key-on (just use the wiring harness for the stock fuel pump), and you're done. Simple as pie. Video of mine running: www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152505624834775&set=vb.508164774&type=2&theater¬if_t=likeVideo of mine racing: youtu.be/b-eYgVKh0WQBut if you decide you want to go carbed, yeah, looks like you're on the right track. I will eventually switch to a carb once I pull the motor to go in a new car, that way I can stuff a mild cam in it without having a computer freaking out.
