It'll run just fine with a carb, plenty of carbed vortec motors running around
I use a Holley red electric fuel pump, puts out 7 psi, works great for most carbs

yes it will run fine with a carburated intake, hei distributer, and good fuel pump. the holleys work well... remember if it runs over 6ish psi you need a regulator

theres no need for a regulator when running a holley red pump.

you don't really want to swap cams just for the sound.... if it's a true vortec engine you need a factory roller cam with the stepped front. Look at a howards 180235 or comp 08-412-8. Neither will have much lope, but they will deliver great low end torque and let your vortec heads breathe. Remember you need to upgrade springs also and I would put an older style timing cover on it as well.

I built a full roller vortec engine with flat top pistons for a guy around here... a kick ass valve job on the heads with roller rockers... and a step bigger cam than those (08-422-8 comp)... edelbrock eps intake and carb... and it lopes like crazy when it's cold but pretty well comes out of it when it warms up... and it will run with pretty well anything around here.

Pretty sure that cam isn't in there for sound.

Pretty sure that cam isn't in there for sound. I wasn't talking about the video you posted, I was talking to derbyguy02... since I gave him camshaft part numbers that I would consider good choices for his engine. but hey.. what do I know.

How well do these vortec heads hold up too heat. I recently bought a set of heads for a good price. I was talking to some truck pulling guys that run vortec heads and they told me these heads deliver some great power with a good cam. I guess my question is has anybody had good success with these heads. and is a good set of springs and rockers recommend

They are about the best stock heads you can get.... they will be fine as long as you keep water in your engine... if you lose it you're chancing cracking any head that you run. i've heard they're crack prone... and i've seen a few sets cracked (from freezing not overheating) but it doesn't detour me from using them
