Alternator sticks out.. if it gets hit and throws the belt off then you lose your water pump and power steering. Water pumps is the main reason.. That is why you don't run a one muti-groove belt system. I have never had a alternator hit. You can fab brackets to move it to where you what. And a water pump is overrated on BBF!

Anything is possible in a demolition derby. I would rather just not risk it.

I run one belt for the alternator, which coensidentally goes around the water pump too. I run another belt for the water pump. Then, I run another belt for my power steering. Yes, three different belts which have absolutely nothing to do with each other. If the alternator does get hit and it throws the belt, I have no alternator but a fully charged battery.

351m, no it doesnt give me the serpentine option. I have to have a whole different belt for the alternator.

I always have ran one, just because I had it. This year I had an alternator crap out on me the morning of the derby, didn't worry about it, ran the ignition, starter and fans without a problem (and my carb was acting up and stalling out almost every hit, so lots of restarts....)
Comes down to personal preference in my opinion.
