ive read a lot of threads with comments here and there about bumpers being to heavy, too hard, or too much for a specific car. could someone please explain this to me and show a couple pictures? whether its a dec bumper on a unibody car or a pointy on a no -weld car.
thanks in advance for any information

The basic idea is a pointy for example has that long point which adds leverage. That added length and leverage on say a stock vic is going to nose it much faster than a flat bumper. The harder the bumper the more stress it puts on the frame, a soft bumper gives a hard bumper puts it all on the frame.

The point of a Pointy is 11 inches if I remember correctly. If you have a stock car that extra foot out there is going to exactly what vona112 just said.

(opening a can of worms) Used correctly, a chrysler pointy bumper will do MUCH more damage to the car being hit than the car that it is on. For example, take your flat fist and lightly tap (punch) a wet sponge, it leaves a fist inprint right? Now take your index finger and tap (poke) the sponge with the same pressure. Which did more damage? Think about it. your finger went much further into the sponge, Ask those that have run these pointy bumpers for a while (myself included) my cars dont nose up any faster with the chrysler pointy as apposed to running a flat bumper. You see a pointy coming at you and you know your in for it. flat bumper? take your shot and check out the damage done as you back away.
Going out on a limb here but I would bet the pointy will do LESS damage to the car that it is on do to the amount of damage that is being done to the other car. I'll run a pointy anyday over a flat bumper.
And my pointys are STUFFED!!

from what ive seen its all on how u hit with it, nose to nose with a like car/bumper it will push up faster but if u run a "hard" bumper and make smart hits i.e sheetmetal/tires wont cause any more damage then with a soft bumper
I run a 74 monte and one yr i didnt nose the car as hard but the next yr on a diff car but same rules and same make of car it nosed in a heat/feature bad but the second yr I went nosing and then parked on a trunk to end my night lol

Pointy bumpers are good, but they will bend a frame faster then a flat. But put one on a stock 65 lincoln they will not last long and frame will still be straight. 3 runs bumper was junk !!!

my first attempt at using a pointy on a box gm. shocks are collapsed and bolted to back of bumper. (my rules) Used the front 90% on a small track. I believe I had the front of the car too high to start. Based on the damage the pointy dished out and how well it held up I will continue to use it.
