I want some tips from old school guys who remember when these were the cars to beat. I've got a 71 with the big knuckles and a 455. I'm especially interested in the trunk area. The ones I remember were set high and tipped over so many cars they were banned around here for years.

Just saw one run this year, even helped fix their ball joints. His was converted to rwd with coil springs. Definitely tucked too. His bellied in front of the humps when he stopped running it, had at least 5-6 derbies on it. Front never moved, but I don't know how much he used it.

Thanks but I'm leaving it front wheel drive. I hate to say this but "built right" these cars are nasty. I know a major key to success is to mount the engine good and hard. Driving technique was to drive slow keeping the 455 cool and get close then let the ponies run in theses torque engines and throw cars out of the arena or roll them over. We used to all run from them, even the guys in the imps. I never could find one then and they're still on my bucket list so gotta do one. The newer ones with the small blocks 307? have small knuckles and not enough power for the carnage the old ones caused. Eldorados are a completely different animal and nobody wanted them.

Ahhh ya that was it, I remember it having the Sbc in it and he made a lot of custom items to mount the Sbc, for some reason I though he did rwd too but obviously not.... Still awesome

Also according to that, and other websites, the 71-76 Eldorados have the same exact frame (the E-chasis) as same year Regals (despite being converted to front wheel drive in both the Eldorado and Tornado editions).
I ran a 73 Eldorado back in the 90's, left it front wheel drive and of course broke the CV joint up front but not until three derbies in. It was a tank up front. I'd run one (or a Tornado) again, but I'd probably do the rear wheel drive changeover.

Fun to watch 20 & 8 in the 3rd heat, great driving. The whole derby is great to watch, cars actually bending and some good hits and driving. There's even cars tearing it up that people on here would have you think can't be run. Thanks Freak Show!
