I recently used the slider shaft out of a peterbuilt semi it has around 8-10 of slide on a spline and with a little trimming fit right on the gear box then used pipe from firewall to dash bar and a very large carrier on the bottom of the dash bar.

I couldn't find one that looked beefy enough for my taste so I built my own out of 1" diameter tube and 3/16" plate steel. I'll need someone to dig my elbows out of my shoulders before I bend it. The solid aluminum ones look pretty good but... It all depends on how big of a wheel you want. A 12" wheel doesn't need to be as HD as a 16" wheel.

I run a smaller wheel than most I think its 12 or 13" iv tweaked one so far but never really bend one...15" wheels for me anyways seem to bend really fast and hard.

I was thinking a bigger wheel might be a lil better in case I loose power steering. I'd have a lil more leverage with a bigger wheel.

Last one I built for a 75 Deuce, I used a slider out of a 2500 Dodge truck. It had 10 inches of travel.

Are you guys putting anything at the firewall for the Colum . Not a knuckle but to keep the Colum from sloppin around or the to heim joints at dash bar is good enough ?

Two heims about a foot apart is great plenty. If you have a slip shaft in your column you can also run lock rings on both sides of the heims to keep the column from moving in or out. Not fun when you get hit in the back and you pull your slip shaft apart.

I made my slip shaft out of a piece of 3/4" key stock about 2' long turned to 3/4 round for the knuckle and a piece of 1" 11ga tubing to slip over it. Should be able to put the front wheels into the firewall before I can't steer anymore.
