Actually the 1957-1960 mercs have a bigger frame under them. Much stronger than the 1957-1959 fords.

I've got two 1958 Mercury Montereys that I thought I had sold but the guy backed out. Are these cars any good? Do they compare to the cars pictured above? Thinking of building one of them for next summer. How hard is it to put a SBC in these and what are the pro's and con's of these cars. Where are you from and how much you want for them

Never been around any of the 57-60 Mercs. What exactly is the difference? Are the old Merc. frames just a little thicker and bigger around than the Fords and later Merc. frames? Just know that they're basically the same car and have the same build.

I pretty sure I'll probably build one of them for next summer but the oher one would be for sale for $700 if you're interested.

Sedans or wagons?

Mine are both sedans. Have the motors and trannys still in them but have been sitting for a long time. Frames look good on them but there is a hole in the floor board on drivers side front but that is an easy fix.

quick question, i know the 58-64's are the good years but does a 57 fairlane 500 compare to them at all or are they better left where they are?

Some might nit-pick that they are not the same. But, INO, they are close enough!

I don't really know. I never got down and did any measuring. Some of these guys have, so they may have that info for you. Good luck with it!

Looked at a few pics. of 57 ford frames, and to me they look just like the 58=64 frames. Is there something I'm missing that makes guys not want to run these as much as the 58-64's?

Mid-size car. If it has a V-8 in it, it's most likely a 221 or 260. If you've run a bunch of derbies, and have very generous rules, you might do OK. But I'd pass on it myself.
