Anyone figure out how to eliminate the VATS module entirely yet? If not, I'll figure it out. Gunna hotwire the fuel pump and starter switch. Gunna figure out how to bypass the instrument cluster. If someone has already figured it out and wants to save me the time, LMK... would something like this achieve that www.bakerelectronix.com/products_vats/Or are they just selling snake with different color LEDs ?

Tophat6x7 I'm going to keep my cluster in just so it don't screw me in the middle of the derby don't want to really take that chance. But it keeps working at the house.

Tophat let me know if you decide to run it without it plugged in and how it worked out for you.

I posted this in the 3100/3.1 thread, but I'll post it here, too. I have eliminated the dash harness by cutting the wires for the VATS plug off, and putting 12V+ off my run switch to orange and pink, 12V- off black, putting my resistors that match the resistance of the key on WHT/BLK and PPL/WHT, and running the dark blue wire to the dark blue wire on the firewall pass through plug. Its the DRK BLU wire at position D1 on the plug. You could, also, splice into the DRK BLU wire at the PCM plug, I think the position is 70 on the C1 plug, but I'm not 100% sure on that...Once you have a VATS box set up to work, it should work in any car, including ones that do not have keys ;-)

Dumb question. When installing a resistor, are they a one way thing like a diode, or does it matter?

hater, i let the car sit with the battery undone for about a week and and the connector unplugged and the fire it and it would not start, plugged it back in and reset it and it fired. i got a 20 dollar bypass module from a parts store i do buisness with, i am going to try that and see if it works. i could leave it hooked up, but i just dont want this thing to die during the derby.

Did manage to successfully do my first VATS bypass....on a 90 Riviera. Much easier than I thought it would be. Was not lucky enough to be able to run a single resistor. Had to use 4 resistors to add up close to the #12, 6040 ohm key.

Yeah, I had to run 2 on mine to get the correct resistance...solder is the absolute best option. I left the ends long enough to fold them up on top of the module and electric taped the entire thing to keep moisture out...

not sure if Cavis are the same as Ws as far as VATS, but you can look up all the different key resistances that exist, and get a rheostat, which is basically an adjustable resistor, and start setting the rheostat to all the different key resistances until you find the one that works...
