what truck does the ZZ4 come factory in or is it strictly a crate engine? Believe that was a gmpp crate engine with the D port style aluminum heads. GM may have built some one off special edition ride with it, but to my knowledge, nothin came from the factory with it

Helping a buddy of mine build a new engine and he wanted ZZ4 parts. We didnt know if they were factory or aftermarket. Thanks for the info.

I know a lot of people don’t use this site anymore but still hoping I can find some answers. I’m looking for camshaft tips. I have already scrolled through this entire thread before when building my 355. I’ve used the summit 1104 cam and also the comp 268.
This time I am building a 331, so 327 with .030 bore. What cam would be good to run in something like this since with the shorter stroke it will rev more than a 355. The 331 just has flat tops with the valve reliefs and a set of 461 camel hump heads. Debating on solid lifters vs hydraulic just to try something new. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Solid roller is ideal i feel. Being said those heads will start to run out of flow with too much cam.
My 327 runs amazing with a pretty basic elgin cam, slightly bigger than the 1104

Curious what row radiator some of you all run? I wasted my alum one last year and don't want to use stock that I have as back up so going to buy 2 aluminum to replace last years. I ran my one aluminum one for 4 years it was a short 3 row. But thought I'd see what others run.

hey guys I recently got a 355 for derby use but it has aftermarket dart aluminum heads and was wondering how they'd hold up for derby use. Our heats last between 20-45 minutes and I may run a big money show occasionally. I knew some guys run LS engines with aluminum heads but those are factory

Our heats last between 20-45 minutes and I may run a big money show occasionally. I knew some guys run LS engines with aluminum heads but those are factory LS really doesn't compare due to a very different clamping pattern. Even with that, many LS guys are running on methanol as it burns cooler and helps keep temps down. Personally, I wouldn't on my own engine, but I am cautious and like to put something together that I think is the best chance to last, and that is a steel head on a SBC in my opinion. That being said, if you are fairly confident you can keep temps in check, not lose a radiator, run on methanol, then maybe that works for you and shouldn't have nearly as many drawbacks.
