Maybe an experiment is in store for the volvo.

Do these compare with a mustang? Stronger or weaker? Talking more about the nose...

Fox bodies, and somewhat modified I guess? Limited weld? I can run any bumper, homemade or stuffed, and can make homemade bumper shocks up to 6 inches long. Any frame seams can be welded from "crush boxes" forward. So basically I can weld any seam in the engine bay..

Pretty equal then. Though left stock, the Fords have FAR superior struts.

So no better than a foxbody?

In my humble opinion, not much is.

I favor the fords. Parts are cheaper and more readily available than Volvo's.

Talking more about the nose... imo... i would take a my chances with a volvo nose to nose with a foxbody, stock, or modified. like said before though, volvo's front steering and suspension suck. that is the one clear weak area of these cars. if that can be fixed, you have a very stout compact all the way around.

Picked this up Monday. Stripped and came with some cage material(needs to be redone). Not a lick of rust, super clean...Someone wanted to keep this car for a long time and undercoated the crap out of it. Looking for some tips... I kind of know what I want to do with the front(unless someone wants to post or PM me some tips on the front...)...but the guy I picked it up from said the only way to run them is to sedagon them. I'm not sure I want to do that...this is my first wagon and I'd like to not sedagon it to see how it folds, but I want it to be strong(of course) What do you guys think? How strong are the wheels on these? By the looks of it, not very...will some Lumina steel wheels bolt on?

i havn't had an issue with bending wheels yet. my front right bent at the bead but still holds air just fine.
as far as the front goes as long as you can weld a strong bumper on you should be in pretty good shape. i've gone 2 short heats and a heat win with a maverick bumper welded to the volvo shocks and my drivers front just started to give a little(had some rust issues in that spot too). i've been debating for this year cutting the front rails down 4-5 inches and hardnosing it. that might be a project once i get everything else fixed.

Short nose it, you will see why they are so stout once you cut it down. I wouldn't sedagon it. Waste IMO
