Whats the best way to remove the air bags out of an escort? There is obe in the dash, and one in the steering wheel. I dont want to deploy them. Will the car run with them disconnected/unpluged.

Do I connect all three wires together on the fuel shut off switch. I tied them together and the car runs. Wasnt sure if the ground stayed grounded.

For the air bags, unhook the battery and you can unbolt the airbag unit and unhook the wire plug. Do NOT cut the wires, it could potentially deploy...
There shouldn't be any ground for the inertia switch for the fuel pump. A power and a fuel pump wire, not sure what the other is. Yes just cut them and splice them together and your good

You don't have to cut the covers off. I think for the steering wheel there are some screws on the back side that allow it to come off, if not, I think you can just rip off the cover, and you can unbolt it then. I know for sure on the pass side you just unbolt it and it comes off, you'll have to get under or behind the dash to do it...it's been a few years since I stripped one of these...

look on the backside of the steering wheel, there should be 4 bolts that hold on the air bag. probably 8 or 10mm. for the passenger side, like said. you will have to do some searching in and around the dash to find all the bolts. its been 5 yrs since i took one out but i'm pretty sure ounce you remove the glove box it becomes a lot more clear. and like said before, do NOT cut wires. and make sure to disconnect the battery before you start removing them.

Thanks for the help. There were only two 10mm bolts holding the steering wheel air bag in. they are on the side, and I took the glove box out and unbolted the two 10mm bolts holding the dash airbag in. Simple and easy. Thanks for the help.

This is my first 90s car build. Those 70s & 80s cars are getting pretty hard to find around my area thx to cash for clunkers and the price of scrap going up. So this 95 Escort wagon will do. Its a no weld stock demo. Any really good tips for this car?? Have done most of whats been posted.

Drive backwards, avoid hard shots with the front. Weld up the motor mounts, especially the lower trans mount. Cheat if you can get away with it. Haha jk. But seriously....

eeh from what I understand(no experience myself) the K cars aren't TOO much stronger than the Escorts...On the escort, put a pointed bumper, bumper shocks, and 1" allthread right in front of the core support, that would help some...but that's kind of general rule on all compacts, I believe...
If you try another compact, try a GM, AMC, Toyota, Honda, Tempo...pretty much anything but a second gen Escort or Mazda Protégé(same platforms)
