I ran my first escort last weekend. All i have to say is you can not let others hit your front wheels. 1st hit, broken tie rod on driverside, second hit drove passenger side axle into transmission and I was done. Transmission has a tennis ball size hole in it now. I made one hit with the front and I was done. This is true with most FWD compact cars.

how do those dirtbike tires hold up Great. Only ran them once. Theyre light and dig hand. i got the hardest compound tire i could find and the local honda dealer. Mine are 14's and since nearly everyone around here puts their bumper up at max height, they never get touched. Theyre tubed using 14" car tubes. The rims are from a cavilier with centers welded in them.

I had a 95 escort wagon...rad supports are junk, front frame rails get pushed into the pulleys..I was able to keep the front end somewhat protected and made the car last 4 derbys... Also just count on loosing the rad...ran the last 3 derbys with out one it didn't skip a beat The 4th derby is what killed the motor..took a hit to pass front tire broke tie rod and cv I was able to limp around till a took a full track hit to my front end and peeled the hood open, ripped the alternator off the block and cracked the valve cover

Ok, so my Mazda MX-6 has the same wiring harness that runs under the drivers front fender. We went through a long ass process of elimination yesterday of starting the car, snipping a wire, turning it off, then starting it back up. We found that only 3 wires would either kill the car or not let it start... Worked flawlessly last night, but went out to fire it up today, and nothing. What all needs to be hooked up to run? I know the mass airflow meter has to be hooked up, same as the injectors, fuel pump, starter, and such. We got the car when it was already stripped, and we're assuming the dude that stripped it already bypassed the inertia switch in the trunk, because there was nothing there. Aside from the fuel pump, would there have been a wire I've removed from under the seats thats not letting this car start? I've been over the car a million times it seems, and cannot see any answers..except maybe I cut the wires that run back to the inertia switch and now its no grounded?

I posted this in the ford forum already, sorry for the double post,
been lurking the forum the past couple weeks after hearing about an upcoming figure 8 derby near me, and I finally went out and picked up a car this past weekend. Its a 1997 Ford Escort 4dr.
It was rough around the edges but the motor and trans seemed to have no problems; it started up and ran good for the two days i drove it before starting the build on monday. Today I didn't do much under the hood, I cut the exhaust so it empties straight under the motor, took the air filter and cap out (leaving the sensors), and took off a small plastic sensor with four wires coming to it that was on top of the frame rail right near where the front bumper attaches. I was under the impression that it was the airbag sensor.
I go to drive it around my shop's yard after these modifications and it seemed to be fine at first, then after a minute as i was rolling to a stop, the motor puttered down and stalled out. it always starts right back up. but just randomly as i slow down every once in awhile it will stall. it happened once or twice at a medium speed as well.
My guesses are: The car's PCM is relearning how it should run with the new modificaions Bad Battery? That sensor wasn't the airbag sensor
Didn't have much time to play with it after this happened. Have some ideas to try tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else had some insight on it. One thought I had was just to turn the idle up higher so it less likely stall.
Thanks, Drew

You sure are brave to run that thing against fullsize cars. I'm afraid to run them against pretty much anything, unless it's a figure 8...did you plate it/load it?
