okay, running the old points setup, but its been a long time. Does the resistor go between the switch and the coil, or the coil and the distributor?

1970 & up dual field charging system (you don't have to use the starter relay.... I just show it as a jumper point for 12v feed) _____________________________________________________ points with a light to indicate ignition is "on". Alternatively, instead of taking it straight to ground you can connect this leg to the oil pressure switch on the top of the engine just behind the intake manifold to indicate the engine is not running based on oil pressure: _____________________________________________________ electronic ignition I made some more to show 4 different ways of doing it when using an alternator: __________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________ ****Note that the ignition system shown above is points type****

i'm running electronic ignition, i've checked/swapped every component and cannot figure out why i have spark on the bottom 2 prongs of my resistor but no spark with the top 2 prongs of my resistor?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Even if the resistor is blown, it would mean you have 12v on one of the two prongs. If you have it on none it means you have a wiring/connection error

Having a dummy moment, wired points style distributor just like diagram but I'm not getting spark from the coil, so took coil off running motor and still not getting spark any ideas?

I promise the diagram is right so double-check your wiring job, if you are confident it is correct then check the basics like: - 12v test light, start at the points and work your way back towards the battery - is the rotor turning - are the points gapped correctly and clean - hard parts OK.... you checked the coil already, only other components are points, condenser, distributor, cap, rotor, ballast resistor - dumb question.... when checking for spark are you sure you are grounding the plug body correctly

86 has Lean Burn, no diagram for that. Either run it off the stock key switch or throw it all away and replace with a different system. I would recommend points. You can get a distributor for a 1969 318 engine and drop it right in

is the condensor needed on a points setup? if so which side of the coil does it go?

the condenser is inside the distributor, next to the points. It's the little round can about 1/2" diameter with a wire lead that connects where the points do. Are you confusing the condenser with the ballast resistor, which is the rectangular ceramic thingy with two spade terminals on it?
