for my transmission dipstick,
1) i measure pull it all out and stick the dipstick back in the tube, and measure how far it sticks out (need this for later)
2) than take that measurement plus the distance to the full mark on the dip (you will need this for when you cut off your dipstick)
3) now add atleast 2 inches (tranny fills up with oil when shut off, don't want it seeping out the dipstick tube)
4) cut the tube off at the total of all the measurements and you have (don't forget to add in the extra inch the tube sit inside the tranny).
5) now simply put the full length dipstick in the cut off tube
6) now from the measurement earlier on of how much the dipstick sticks out past the tube you'll know where to cut off the dipstick
7) next you take the second measurement of how far up the dipstick it was to the full line and measure that out and take a stamper or punch and mark the full like on your dipstick
8) now you have a 3 inch high dipstick and tube. which is easy to check because i'm sure there's a hole cut in the floor for the tranny lines to come into the cab for a tranny cooler.
9) Nicer to top up fluid if there is a leak (hoods tend to get pushed back and bend in the way)
I will try to get some measurements and pictures next time i'm out at my derby grainery
-Some place want a hose on your dipstick tube that points down to the ground. None have said anything to me so far with this set up.
