is there any way to make a c-clip rear worth a damn? Read the last 36 pages, find the answer for you. In a straight cut answer yes they can be made into a great rearend with little time and money.

What is everyone using for rotor and calipers on their 10 bolt GM pinion brakes? I have an 89 civic rotor and its close, but will take some fab work. I've heard 93ish ford tempo rotors are perfect fit. Any truth to that?

looking at the cover will help, 10 bolt cover means 99% of the time its a 28 spline, and a 12 bolt cover always means its a 31 spline , but be careful, you could have a c-clip rear version, even in the 12 bolt rear. or the crazy 10 bolt rear with 12 bolt c-clip axles. Tell me about it . That's what I've got 10 bolt cover 12 bold ring with 31 spline c clip axles

Shouldnt matter much if its c-clip or bia if you have axle savers right? Have two c-clip 10bolt rear ends but not sure if I should spend the money on gears if im only going to run them once or twice.

still able to break axle just as easy that way. axle savers will help to keep from breaking axles.

still able to break axle just as easy that way. axle savers will help to keep from breaking axles. The advantage of c-clip eliminators or BIAs is that you don't lose your axle when it breaks. It does not slide out so you can still keep running all be it with only one drive wheel. I have never run axle savers but have had good success with 10-12 hybrid conversion. I don't know how effective axle savers are. The 10 bolt axles that have broke on me were from being hit while wheel was spinning. they usually broke near the carrier and showed signs of twisting off. I'm no expert but from my own experience bigger axles help a 10 bolt.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm not a Chevy guy! I recently picked up a 72 Olds Delta 88 with a 10 bolt. It has the cross hash across the cover but also has the square lugs at the bottom. I saw the ID pic and those two features are on both the 8.2 and 8.5. Just trying to see what I got! Either way, it's getting welded and throughly hammered!
Thanks in advance.

If it has the little squared ears in the bottom its a 8.5. I've seen them with the crossed cover.

Plan to buy 4.10 gears for my 10 bolt with bia... whats everyones suggestions on the next step to do so I can improve this rear end? Was thinking of buying a spool, but not sure if its needed since I weld the spiders really well and have had good luck with that.

Gears, then spool (buy a full spool, not a mini) then an axle upgrade with axle savers and be done. Brace it yourself.

Any suggestions on a brand of spool, or where to buy?

Maybe what I should ask is what all do I need other than just a spool? Steel spool, spool bearing kit... what else?
