70 was a little different. 71-76 are the same pattern/size as the 8.5" rears as far as the yoke goes.

On the old site I read something about late 60's gm's with bia rear ends being differant than the early 70's bia's. What would a '70 electra 225 have the ''good'' style or the junk one?

THE 12 BOLTS FROM 68 TO 70 WERE 31 SPLINES, BUT UTILIZE A DIFFERENT BEARING AND RETAINER AND THE AXLES ARE 3/8 OF AN INCH SHORTER. NO, THEY DONT SWAP OUT AT ALL....

NO, THEY DONT SWAP OUT AT ALL.... yesterday i went to a company called machine service.and i was looking at getting a retainer for a 12 bolt axle i have. and the guy at the desk stated that the bearing is set in the tubes and don't come on the axles.i'm thinking HMMM!.why is it that i have axles have bearing on them..this is a new field.so don't get on my aZZ to much jon!!so i bought a retainer for a 10bolt and i'm thinking on reaming the center out so it fits .and then put a tack weld on it to keep it in place.as a question did'nt the early 70's-80's blazers come with 12 bolt axles or is this a 10 set-up

What if I would weld the tubes off the '70 to a 10 bolt center and shorten them up 3/8 inch? Then I could use these axles? thanks for the info!
