Did they make 10 bolt rear in a 71-76 wagon?
Wagon rear with 31 spline bolt in only?
Doing some reading just trying to be clear.

No they did not . The only 2 choices of diffs were :
12 bolt b.i.a, 31 spline found in 71-75 buick and olds wagons
And
10 bolt cover / 12 bolt ring gear, c-clip , 31 spline found in all other roundbacks

1973 WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT YOU WILL FIND ONE IN AN IMPALA. THEY DIDNT PUT 10 BOLT- BOLT INS IN THE 71 AND 72 IMPALAS. 1971 BUICK LESABRE WILL HAVE A 10 BOLT BIA, WHILE A 71 CENTURION WILL HAVE A 12 BOLT BIA. THEY DIDNT PUT A BOLT IN AXLE REAR END IN 1976 OLDS 98 OR ELECTRA FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN IN 30 YEARS... AND NEVER HAD A TOW PACKAGE 76 OLDS 98 OR ELECTRA.... I would have to disagree Jon. I was just at a yard in Texas that had a 72 Impala with a 10 bolt bia.. I bought a fender and left the rear axle. As for 76 Olds 98 and Electra's NOT having bolt in's; 10 or 12? I have a 76 Electra in my yard now that has the factory 12 bolt bia.

If I have a 10 bolt c clip housing can I buy a spool and bia axles will they bolt on? No, I am almost 100 percent certain the bearings are different between c-clip and bia.

So I'll have to get c clip elimenators Nerat sells bearing ends that you can weld on. Cut the old off and weld new one on. On his thread in the gearhead section.

^ this is a better solution, but if it was me, and you were doing that much work, I wouldn't stick with 28 spline axles.

Everything is the same on a 10 bolt except for the axel tube ends for the BIA .. The spool will work .. If you have a 71-76 caddy housing you can cut the tube ends off and use them on the 10 bolt and save your $$

I just built a buddy a 31 spline c clip rearend.... Pulled the axles and spider gears from a 76 poncho with the 10 bolt cover/ 12 bolt ring gear.... And put them in a 10 bolt c clip housing with 4.56 gears..... Took some work to get the axles to fit in the carrier..... But works great for a budget setup for stock shows
