rear end is a 10 bolt 8.5. the gears have been welded before I got it. axles are BIA best I can tell, I couldn't see a c clip on the axles. I need about a 3.73 gear. what is the best thing to do? also want some decent axles. will the ones in it be fine? its in a 72 impala. not sure if its the original one or not. i may sound crazy... and no i'm not trying to sell you anything.... but your best bet is to buy a rearend someone else has already built... by the time you buy axles, a spool, and gears... you will have a grand into it.... the 28 spline axles are ok for stockers but they will break.... probably when you are about 5 minutes from winning a demo....

That's what I'd like to do but when people spend the money on axles and such they brace to housing and I can't have braced rear.

What is anybodies view on the dana 70? I have a dana 70 with the 4.88 gears and I believe the 35 spline axles. Would it be a waste of time building this rear end over a 14 bolt?

How wide is it compared to the stock rear?

I believe it is 4in on each side. Should I cut it down or should it work the way it is?

Would you cut it down or find a different rear end?

Would you cut it down or find a different rear end? I would find a narrow 14 bolt gm if you're looking to go the 8 lug route... or an eaton...
