Just put my front clip on my 74. On my last 3 caddys I haven't but seen.one the other day had all of the metal inner fender trimmed out. Is this a good idea bad idea?

Its personal preference. You can cut/trim or fold and bolt/weld.

Anyone ever try and pull the front end down on one of these? The problem I have really have is the front isn't really nosed out but the sub is bellied, the crossmember is only a few inches off the ground. Have some ideas on what to do but just curious what some others have done. Have some ideas for future fresh builds but I'm thinking this thing is junk. Worse than it looks.

FRAME RACK AT BODY SHOP FOR SURE. BLOCKS UNDER THE FRONT HUMPS, REAR TIED DOWN, WILL STRAIGHTEN THAT MINI-SUB WITH CROSSMEMBER BACK UP....PLATE THE FLOOR, LOTS OF GUYS DOING IT, INSIDE, AND UNDER...

I have no idea how the frame machines work at a body shop but it's probably worth a shot if I can find someone willing to work on it lol. Pulling it down and putting a new clip on it may give it one more run. The rest of the car is still in decent shape. But then again sometimes it better just to apply what you have learned and build the next one better. My first "real" Caddy and I don't want to run anything else now!

tank, what i do on my 73's is........ill run chains thru the floor boards, around the frame kickers, and then up and around my dash bar. (grade 8 bolts are a must)
sux running with a chain between your knees,,,,but it works. inorder for the frame kickers and cross member to drop,, it has to take the dash bar down with them.
i can send pics if you think you need them.

I got it. That's pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking for next time. Plan on bringing a 73 to Mayhem next year and this was pretty much a Guinea pig for my mayhem build. And with homemade trans crossmembers allowed the wheels are turning.

Chain it down on the trailer and a floor jack on each side will pull it down. Only problem is you floor is gone so you will need to either build a tranny crossmember or chain it like Brad said.

I took some 1/4" 2x2 and put some angle on the ends and ran it across after i bent the sub back up just welded it up in there and it never bent down after that

I'm going to try fixing two that did the same thing. One had three runs on it before it bent like that. The second didn't last. Should have it pulled if you straighten it, not just bend it back down. I'm putting the crossmember in mine also.

definitely tougher than all other gms, even left stock. I would run that caddy again. I was wondering. I pull all the body mounts out and I replace all the bolts and use big washers. This year I pulled the front clip to do the one's under the firewall. When I took out the rubbers I noticed I had a gap between the frame and the body. should I have probably shimmed that gap? Ever car I ran lasted (except a mopar).
